I bought one of these a week ago. Can't recall when I have been more pleased with a powered lawn product.
I did a lot of research after seeing the recent 5/18 Sun Joe dethatcher deal for the 15" 13 amp deal for 130. Much of the SD discussion focused on extension cord length needed to support the amperage the Sun Joe required (and the small bagger). I didn't want to also invest in a 10 gauge 150 foot cord or drag my generator around the yard, so
went with the Greenworks because 10 amps made my long (150') 14 gauge workable for me. I had some concerns about whether the unit had enough power on paper, but decided to give it a try.
My 5000sf lawn is steep and medium-small and hasn't been dethatched in 5 years.it took me all day to do it. I mowed to 2" and bagged clippings beforehand, then went quite slowly, holding the dethatcher back somewhat as it pulled forward. I also discovered if I wiggled the handle back and forth while moving it got a lot more thatch and, more importantly, didn't need a second pass at right angles later on. When I was done, I had raked up 14 tightly compressed large landscaping bags of thatch. The unit never overheated or even protested.
Bottom line, I am completely satisfied with this thing. It didn't leave the carnage that a heavy gas dethatcher does, it's easy to get up and down the steep slopes on my lawn, and I did not have to invest in yet another electrical cord.
I agree, this is a fantastic deal.
Saw this the other day for $99 and almost pulled the trigger but glad I waited, thanks op.
Anyone have experience with amazon warehouse "like new" items? They had this earlier for $52 (unavailable now), but I hesitated since I was unsure on what condition the item would arrive in.
That's actually the one I bought. Box had been open and retaped, but was otherwise literally like new.
Have owned this for 4+ years and bought at a similar price. It is massively cheaper than a single day rental of a gas engine from local stores.
Some say the other brand with a bagger on the back is easier, but neighbor has that one and they overflow quick. You're going to be dumping that bag every minute and not much cleaner. Having a backpack blower makes cleanup a lot easier.
I have a pretty even lawn with some incline. I swap the blades on my mower with dethatch blades and it has worked well. It won't work on those with uneven surfaces. Just an idea for those with same type of lawn as me.

I bought an Acceptable/"item will be repackaged" on April 5th for $37.94. It arrived in a brown Amazon box, and everything was still in plastic/unassembled, safely packed in that liquid foam stuff that takes its shape and hardens into styrofoam.
I just wish this model had a collection bag like the Sun Joe i used last time, but realistically i was either going to indefinitely prolong my purchase or just buy this for $38 and deal with collecting the debris.
If you still have it available and a nearby pickup location, you can use the 10OFFPICKUP to save another $10. I was surprised to find that a pickup location would be available for something like this, but it worked!
I've never dethatched our yard, 12 years. It's half an acre, but we do have a large area of landscaping, with patio and pool and campfire pit, etc.
Should I pick this up, or is there a better idea I should look into?
I think it's a great deal on the detatcher, but I think I'll wait for the Scarifier DT13B00 to come out in stock/sale. I really want to have the ability to scarily the lawn too

Usually have good experience. Sometimes even listed items as "good" is pretty new. It's just returned items.
However, I did get an item that was the wrong length that they listed. So, they do make mistakes and it's easy to return.
Some things I wouldn't buy from warehouse is like battery or something. It's hard to determine if you have a good battery unless you have the equipment to test it out. I mean you can see if the battery works for the short term but may have a long term problem.
isn't too late in the season (upstate NY) to use this?
Northern NJ here, definitely too late to be using this. We already had 90+ days and more 80s on the way. This should be used in late fall or early spring.
I bought this for 99 from Walmart last year for my new house. Lawn was never dethatched. I dethatched in fall, overseeded, then dethatched again in early spring again where it was needed. I filled 8 50 gal bags of thatch the first time and 2 more the 2nd time. I also debated this over the sun joe, I wanted the bag, but the bag would have filled up so fast making it useless. This did a very good job of pulling up thatch, and in the extreme crab areas it scraped down to the soil and loosened up the top very well.

I used to dethatch every spring but then read that it's better to do it in the fall. In the spring the grass is delicate as it's "waking up" and you'll be opening more opportunity for weed seeds to take hold. Idk if there's any science to that, but I skipped it this spring and am going to do it in the fall

On a separate topic, the dethatcher will scarify the ground plenty well.
