Steep and Cheap is essentially just Backcountry.com with no free shipping. Sometimes one is cheaper than the other depending on how the shipping costs workout.

Either way, I'm not a fan of Backcountry after they sued the crap out of anyone and everyone for using the extremely generic term "backcountry". Bunch of shady dicks. https://gearjunkie.com/news/backc...t-lawsuits

If the item you want is available, Scheels.com/ should price match via email. They're employee owned, have a great return policy, and aren't dicks.

Looks like they have at least some of the same packs. https://www.scheels.com/p/osprey-...00811.html

If you aren't a fan of Scheels for whatever reason, Enwild (who used to be called Backcountry Edge until the lawsuits started) will also price match.

They weren't "defending" anything. They were using the threat of extended legal battles to bully smaller companies, in an attempt to get a stranglehold on a very common term.

Several of the companies involved were small mom-and-pop stores, some of which were using the word "Backcountry" before Backcountry.com even existed. These guys blow.
Backcountry doesn't offer free returns. It will be $6.99 for return shipping.

Excuse my lack of backpack knowledge, but isn't every backpack "unisex"?

Looks like the Stratos 24L are $103 with free shipping directly from Osprey. Free returns as well. I might pull the trigger.

Wow SD is getting shady these days. Link didn't work just go to Osprey's website and check.
The blue Stratos 24L is also $98 on Amazon. Got the backpack, 2.5L LT water reservoir and dust cap for $139 before taxes. Basically got the bladder and cap for free with the sale.

Should be here Friday and hoping to go hike somewhere Sunday or Monday to test it out. Smilie

My wife got me a similar 24 backpack for my birthday last year.

I'd say I've hiked over 200 miles with this bag and it is a game-changer for my hikes with my dog (and wife)!

Pros
  • Carries a lot of water, but don't notice it (other than slight weight on your back)
  • Carries a lot of "other stuff" like wallet, car keys, dog's water bottle, some snacks, a light coat, etc.
  • extremely compact and doesn't "lean on your back" to the point that youre sweating
  • the hydropacks are easy to fill and use to drink
Cons
  • cant really think of any at the moment

Sure. However, the women's models will have different strap shapes for better comfort.

I would rephrase from "carry-on" to "personal item." As in the bag you can fit under the seat in front of you.

You can bring 40L-50L bag, depending on the dimensions, as a carry-on (overhead bin).
Yes, I was thinking that most major airlines use the 22 inch length as their guideline. That being said, I have a Kelty bag that is about 23.5 inches length and never had a problem with the bag as a carryon. I have not flown on Spirit or Frontier. I often see folks with larger than 22 inch length going unchallenged onboard. But you want to be prepared for airlines stopping you and making you check the bag in.

I like the osprey backpack I have for travel and am looking for a hiking backpack -but they have so many that seem so alike that I have a hard time sorting through the osprey offerings

There are body geometry differences like shoulder and hip width. Other than that the color choices are different too. My wife and I have several Osprey bags of the same line but have different his/her models. I'm a big fan of Osprey as I have triggered their lifetime warranties several times over the decades and they have stood behind them each and every time.

Was it enough or do you wish you got the 36l?

their official website has "packfinder" filter thing that helps you narrow down their crazy huge selection.
