All-Clad is merely assembled in the U.S.A. from imported steel which no longer receives the Starburst treatment to the interior. This disclosure on its web site is now more prominent due to legal action. People notice that sticking is worse than before, discoloring, a rougher interior and difficulty cleaning on the fry pans. These issues along with pitting are not covered under the warranty. Intependent tests and recommendations are of what was rather than what is.
Only a fry pan or skillet should be fully clad. Better manufacturers do not make stockpots or saucepans fully clad.
A clad edge which is open not sealed such as All-Clad is not found in high quality cookware. This aluminum core is exposed to harsh dishwasher detergents and will corrode leaving a sharp edge.
Pitting is not covered under the warranty. If salt crystals hit the bottom of a hot pan then tiny pits only conceal progressive cavitation below. Review photos on ebay. Relying on an expectation of a lifetime of service to justify the high price may result in disappointment.
If a sale recurs every few weeks then this is a good indication that the price is not slick.
Lots of advice from previous All-Clad deal discussions have been consolidated into this sticky thread. I hope it helps. Comments/additions welcome. Reps welcome.

About 30 seconds of light rubbing and they look brand new
Others have offered good tips on this. Once you learn to cook with and care for stainless, it's incredibly easy to maintain. Take the time to heat it properly and it can be practically nonstick, but even when you do scorch it, cleanup should be easy.
Outstanding advice. Don't fall prey to a cheap set that has the wrong pieces in the wrong sizes.

Anyway, In for an 8 quart stockpot with box damage for $169.95 shipped, which to me is an insanely high price. But then again I've been searching for an okayish stockpot for over a year now, so, yeah, maybe my price expectations are off. Don't know the difference between sd5 and bd5 lines except sd5 is cheaper, so, yeah, that's what I got. I hope these all-clad pots don't suck; I've been spoiled by cheaper, yet truly great cookware, made by demeyere, and it might be very hard to go back to regular cookware.

My advice is to buy a pan or two at a time, rather than one big while set. Try different kinds until you find what you like. The ones you like should last a long time if you take care of them. That's what my Chef buddy says
