Interesting, dynamic range compression seems like an obvious solution. Weird that Audible does not have it.

check out the response from @johnmarkdyer later in this thread. I also tried listening to few titles myself without buying.

If you are not using Audible like that, you screwed up.

It didn't work for me. I used to be able to use these free trials, but I think Amazon has finally figured out that it's not worth it giving me a free trial. I haven't had one of these work in a couple of years.

Not sure how it works now, but it used to be that you'd have to spend your credits before you clicked cancel or you'd lose them.

Worked for me, cancelled about a year ago. Last time this came up I forgot to cancel and paid monthly for 11 months. I chatted and said I forgot to cancel and they refunded all my payments with no hassle. Not at all what I expected and was quite pleased, so figure the least I can do is share that experience...so there it is
