Google released a free bonus update for Pixel 3 and 3XL owners today. Enables Pixel 3s to use VOLTE Roaming (voice over LTE), meaning that they won't get turned into
phones that suddenly drop calls as you move from one carrier LTE zone into another as 3G is being disconnected across most carriers. (AT&T turned off 3G in February; TMobile turns it off July 1; Verizon turns it off December 31 2022). On some phones/carriers you will get the update prompt (or you can do an update check manually via Settings>System); on many other phones you won't get it (yet?). In my own case, I did not get the update notification across any of my six Pixel 3s, and as of this writing I still do not see it even when I use the manual update check on my remaining 4 un-upgraded Pixel 3s. Previous to this update, I would regularly get dropped calls or calls that simply never registered; and this is in heavily covered Los Angeles.

ETA: Yes, this IS for Pixel 3 and 3xl. Yes, this will allow your phone to use VOLTE on ATT and TMobile. Yes, this is an official build direct from Google, and the flash tool is also from Google. Yes, I have done it myself and it is pretty nice, as the alternative was to trade them in for
OP Nord 200s [t-mobile.com]. The process took 5 minutes to enable developer mode, enable usb debugging, and enable oem unlocking; 5 minutes install Google WinUSB driver; 2 minutes to unlock via Fastboot; 5 minutes to install C2 build via Android Flash Tool.

Second, VoLTE already exists on all of these phones. What this update brings is VoLTE Roaming.
That is all.
Last edit: Google also rolled this out for regular Pixel 3. Since I'm on Verizon with a bootloader locked Pixel, I'll have to hope Verizon supports this update.
I see others mentioning an update after the October update. What was it? My phone says last updated October, but I know there was a small update after that didn't change when last updated. Currently on C1.

The EARLIER June 2022 update was for 3a and newer, leaving Pixel 3 out.
The build in question IS for Pixel 3 and 3XL, which is why it is of interest. https://www.androidpoli

tl;dr before updating, check online to see if anyone has had issues after updating. Check your model in settings. Probably better to wait a few weeks for results lol
I have done the upgrade to both one Verizon woot model and one Google store model. No issues, as would be expected for a build directly from Google applied to the Google phone for which it was intended.
none of my six pixel 3 triggered the c2 update as of this writing
Finally, without updating it, your phone won't turn to brick as OP claimed. I believe Pixel 3 always had VOLTE. The update just brings VOLTE "roaming".

In 2021, carriers in the U.S. announced they would phase out their 3G networks. As a result, some devices that don't support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) or VoLTE roaming may lose voice calling services, including calls to 911, or connectivity when the 3G networks are shut down. For the latest information on the 3G phase out, visit the FCC website.
For U.S. customers, if you're using an older device where VoLTE was not enabled for your carrier you will experience issues on your home network and we recommend you upgrade to a device that has VoLTE enabled for your carrier. Devices without VoLTE roaming support will not be able to roam on other LTE US networks. Contact your carrier for information about whether VoLTE or VoLTE roaming is supported for your device.
For international customers who are roaming in the U.S. and on a device without VoLTE roaming support, you will lose connectivity and/or voice calling capabilities while on affected carrier networks in the U.S. Contact your carrier for information about whether VoLTE roaming is supported.
June 2022 software update
In June 2022, Google released a software update that enabled VoLTE roaming for many U.S. and global carriers. This allows many Pixel devices to roam in the U.S. with VoLTE, if your carrier supports VoLTE roaming. Contact your carrier for more information.
The software update is available for the following Pixel devices, if applicable for your carrier:
Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL
Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL
Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL
Pixel 4a
Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5
Pixel 5a (5G)
Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro

If you discovered that your phone always drops off in a certain area while driving home, this is why. Even in a highly covered area like Los Angeles, this happens regularly.

Does the OP's side loading method overwrite the phones firmware, or does it just install the update? I really don't want to be back at the factory settings, and lose all the data on the phone.
