My last LG portable AC from Costco, is leaking water, though the condensation tank is always almost empty. So will be returning it and try my luck the Danby! Hopefully it's a better quality compared to LG.

it's the same function as a dual-hose (there is an intake/outtake)
it's a "hose within a hose". better than single hose, inferior to actual dual hose

sounds like the drain opening to the condensate tank is clogged

Hose in a hose is supposed to be better than an actual dual hose. The idea is that the exhaust heat leaks into the intake hose instead of the room.

I get what you are saying, but the reason why it's inferior is because you have super hot air adjacent to the intake in the window, with the intake sucking a lot of that hot air back in (which you don't want to do, it reduces efficiency and makes the compressor work harder). You get the same effect when using a shorter wall A/C than the depth of the wall sleeve it is being installed in. The exhaust expelled across the condenser coil gets sucked back in through the intake (usually that black cage sliver on the right or left side of the condenser coil). It's why the instructions for those clearly state that if the wall sleeve is longer than the wall A/C, you need to use a divider baffle thing. And you need to install a replacement rear grill in the sleeve and angle the louvers appropriately so it's deflected properly.

Then throw in the exhaust heat radiating into the intake across the entire length of the hose.

Ideally, the intake and exhaust should be on opposite sides of the window. Also at a minimum the exhaust hose insulated to prevent heat from being released into the room, and to go the full 9 yards insulate the intake as well to prevent heat intake from outside from radiating into room.

It's mind boggling how even the best of portable A/C's, are inadequately designed and require modification to get truly right.

I agree, these things are huge wastes of electricity to begin with.

I don't feel like the proper dual hose systems put their dual hoses far enough apart to begin with. Also the differential between exhaust air and outdoor air is almost negligible by the time we turn on the A/C anyway. So I feel like it doesn't make too much of a difference pulling in the outside air vs exhaust air.

I read somewhere that the SACC is better for these hose-in-hose systems than a comparable dual hose system. Probably warrants more research.

I'm not sure, it's technically brand new, started to have this issue after two days from using it. Tried to call Lg CS and they refused to honor a warranty exchange or repair, and suggested that I contact the store I bought it from.. thankfully it was Costco!

What was their justification for refusing to honor the warranty? That you were within the return period of the retailer?

I hear LG customer service is awful

They mentioned that's their policy with Costco and added that I have to contact Costco CS for a warranty exchange! Which did not make any sense to me, ended the conversation quickly as I know I'm protected under Costco CS.
I agree with you that Lg CS is terrible .
