I clicked the link that says 25% off with trade in. I selected my old echo dot 3rd gen which says $5 for the trade in. I proceeded to checkout and the total was $16.xx after trade.

FYI, Amazon requires that trade-ins be de-registered and factory reset. I have no idea if they enforce it though.

Got the echo show 8 today and set everything up. Feels a bit sluggish just going through the menus even after updating to the latest firmware. Netflix and spotify works fine. Don't know why somebody said that you can't use the gen 1 for a security camera. It seems to work fine for me. I can use the alexa app and see whatever the camera on the echo show is facing. Might just use it to play music and as an alarm clock and the occasional netflix or youtube.

Can I just not return the echo dot and have Amazon deduct $5? I feel it's not worth to echo dot back just for $5? Or do I lose the discount too?

I asked the same question and I don't think anyone knows the true answer. Someone posted something about the terms saying that you authorize them to charge your credit card for the "promotional credit" but that could be referring to the 5 dollar gift card that they prematurely applied prior to receiving your item out or both the gift card and to the 30 dollar credit I don't think anyone can definitively tell you.

Read the terms again. They clearly differentiate between promo credit (25% off) and TIV (Trade in voucher, the 5 dollars).

I've had five Echo Dot Gen 3's crap out on me. I'm hoping this will be more reliable. Deal worked like a charm, you see the numbers before checkout. All I did was click the trade in for $5, added to cart, and saw the total at the checkout. Easy.

What are you guys doing with the echo shows? I looked at the description and reviews and don't find it any more useful than a regular Alexa. Other than maybe using it to look at security, I don't know why I'd want to have a display on my Alexa.
