the worse thing that can happen for a retailer with most electronics is to get stuck with old stock when newer models are around the corner... rule of thumb for almost all consumer electronics is that it needs to be gone within a year of when it landed on the shelf
sometimes the product is poor quality
sometimes it can literally just be about taste... i remember when i was in charge of an electronics department i had a new style of ihome stereo docks came in, the ihome docks were pretty much the best in terms of sound quality/loudness compared to other ipod docks and the new style was a retro finish because the fad during that time were retro stereos with record players
none of the retro styles sold even though they had the same speakers that were awesome eventually they got marked below the budget brand... i did a live demonstration for someone on the retro dock just to sell one because i knew it was a better product than the other cheap speaker someone was about to buy.... that person didn't like the look but was patient enough to let me show them how good the speaker sounded, they then immediate bought it, and honestly i think they told their friends/relatives or whatever because the rest of them were sold by the end of the week....
so TLDR.... sometimes stuff is just sold below cost just to offload it

in retail anything can sell at anything.. sometimes stuff is more or less liquidated by selling at cost or below cost to just get anything back
