Tenacity has its specific uses(such as pre-emergent at seeding/overseeding, or bentgrass), but for the most part you're better off using herbicides tailored to the weeds you're targeting:

- For general broadleaf weeds 3-way 2,4D, mecoprop, dicamba
- For stubborn broadleaf weeds (chickweed, clover, wild violet, virginia buttonweed, creeping charlie) - triclopyr
- For crabgrass - quinclorac + methylated seed oil as surfactant
- For sedges - sulfentrazone

RoundUp for Lawns should target all of the above with a single mix. Combined with timely pre-emergent applications (early spring for crabgrass, late summer for Poa Annua if applicable), that should cover 99% of weed situations.

How well does it really do against bentgrass patches in a KBG/fescue/rye cool season lawn?

I got Quinclorac (1.5L Select) last year mostly for crab grass... a bit more expensive and it worked really well, but it is not as efficient against creeping charlie...
Anything that works on Creeping? I tried that Borax mix a long time ago, maybe I'll do it again

Just curious if anyone has read MIT researcher Dr. Seneff work on herbicides? Pretty compelling stuff that shows just how toxic these organophosphates are to our bodies (and the environment)

Cliff notes on the book...
Basically, Monsanto's (now Bayer) research on the chemical proves that it doesn't harm humans because we don't have the same pathway (shikimate) that plants and some bacteria have.

However we do have bacteria (so does the soil) and by eliminating the bacteria (in our gut and soil) we effectively sterilize our gut making our immune system suspectable to a host of inflammation based conditions (including auto immune disorders) - which have coincidentally skyrocketed since the 1990s when roundup was introduced as a mainstay in conventional agriculture.

Heres the book:. (Also plenty of podcasts out with Seneff summarizing her work in the book.)

Thumbs upping this comment while being vaccinated would be the typical sd'r move.

I went through all 12 pages of this thread and am more confused.

For a lawn care illiterate, is there a magical do-it-all product or cocktail mix that will do a decent job controlling the weeds(pre and post) in Illinois? Or am I better off continue paying $500 yearly for a "pro" service?

This dude nailed it. I will add that quinclorac works on general weeds but wont to squat to agressive crabgrass lookalikes like goosegrass

I hope you won't try to screw my beautiful lawn. If you screw anything, hit up the various pollinators in the yard. Hope you're allergic to bees, bud.

Anyone used anything that will kill nutsedge and not allow it to come back? I've used a lot of different stuff with very little results. Thanks!
