The 1" vinyl I buy from lowes are generally around 12. I think the faux ones in the twenties are a lower price these days.l

The 23X48 and 34X72 are a few dollars higher than the price I paid at Wal-Mart back in January 2021, but the 34X64 appears to be a few dollars less.

Not bad prices, but nothing amazing.

Good luck!

You can do it yourself actually.i would suggest a table saw or a circular saw.

I did it on these exact blinds YouTube has some examples. You can actually shorten the height as well by 6-7 rows, after that they may creep up.

Don't use a hacksaw or anything it will be uneven on the sides.
For a place we were helping with this saved over $500 from "custom" or the "trimable" ones at other big box across 7 windows.
I used blue tape and a wood clamp to hold the edges parallel and was not an issue. From the top you can see how far you can cut in on each side before you get near the mechanics.

if you're going to do the height some of them out there that show you that on YouTube actually are the old kind with the pull cord to raise the height keep in mind that everything went to cordless so no kids get strangled so if you're watching a video it tells you to do it one way to cordless will not work that way that may not make sense but just make sure if you're following how to change the height of these you follow one that shows you how to do it with the cordless blinds otherwise as soon as you pop the Caps off the bottom the cordless mechanisms going to roll up into the retractor and you're going to ruin the blind. disregard this whole bottom section of you're only doing the width.

How are these for insulating value in the summer? We do not have air conditioning and need to keep the heat out. That said we get very little direct sunlight on our windows due to tree shade. I know the cellular ones are best when looking at R values but our budget is tight since we bought a major fixer upper.

Cool story get a time machine and go back in time before we had 10% inflation.

Very easy to do so. You get a very custom look this way, so take a look at the actual measurements of the blinds relative to your window opening and try to buy something slightly larger than your window opening. The trimming is tedious but produces a nice result. The trimmed pieces are also handy as shims within the mounting gear when/if you're trying to level your blinds.

About the only real distinguishing item between these and the commodity Home Depot option is that the valance piece meant to hide the mechanicals is a simpler, less three dimensional piece vs. an element meant to mimic crown molding (included with the Home Depot equivalent). I'd also add that the blinds are easier to cut since they're clearly a little cheaper (as in, they have less material).

Good luck!

Double cell blinds are the gold standard (and what I've used in warmer climates). Depending upon where you are, there may be no beating that option.

With that said, in more temperate areas I've had good luck combining blinds like these with roller blinds assuming your window installation can accommodate both at the same time. In my case I had windows which were deep enough to allow for inside installation of a roller blind and 2" faux wood blinds. You could also install this with roller blinds as an interior installation and install the faux wood blinds as an outside the window frame installation.

As roller blinds and faux wood blinds are pretty inexpensive, and assuming you don't mind the extra labor, the cost of materials will likely still be well below a set of double cell blinds. Of course, if you're dealing with a truly hot climate and an unforgiving installation the double cell blinds might be worth the investment. The aesthetic value outside your home is also pretty different, as roller blinds tend to look like a plastic sheet hung behind your windows from the outside.

Good luck!

I've used scissors for the blinds and a basic hacksaw for the top bracket and bottom rung.

Good luck!
