I knew by the price but checked anyway, when did CRKT start having knives made in China?

I think Pilars have always been made in China. The standard version is made with 8Cr13MoV (Chinese Steel). This version is the same knife with the D2 steel upgrade.

I'm showing plus shipping of $2.99. If that is correct please update the listing.

1. Create a knife company with quality blades
2. Build a reputation and up your prices
3. Outsource your production to China and lower the manufacturing and materials quality
4.?

It's the American way, until it comes back and bites us in ass. Not just with knives either. It's THE template.
