Seems like this launched recently. Wonder how this is compared to their 7 1/4. For 55 brushless 6 1/2 seems like a great deal.

But, sadly just one video review from the usual suspects. It was good but wish there was more out there.

Pros:
Only 3/16" less cut depth than the new 7 1/4" brushless HP (but still 9/16" more than the 5 1/2")
4900 RPM vs 4300 RPM of the 7 1/4"
5 pounds vs 6.5 pounds of the 7 1/4"
All metal bevel adjustment vs. plastic part on 7 1/4"
Is full HP - it has the two extra contacts in the battery opening
(for some users) - Left blade vs. Right blade.

Cons:
Just released, not enough real user info on it, just marketing materials. So only 1 video review so far. The 7 1/4" has multiple reviews about it not being able to be made perfect 90 degree angle to the base. Hope it doesn't also apply here.

Another video review posted within the last 24 hours. I think for $55.00 (if you return the batteries) you can't go wrong with this saw if you're in the Ryobi platform and in the market for a circular saw.

I have the little 5-1/2" Ryobi saw and love it, use it all the time even though I have a full sized Ridgid Octane and the newest SubCompact 6-1/2" circular saws, not to mention old reliable plug-in Skil Saw.

I bought this and then changed my mind. Everything is great except the steel shoe, which unfortunately is a deal breaker. Good saws have had aluminum shoes for a decade now (lighter, stronger). The best saws have had magnesium shoes for a decade now (even lighter, even stronger).

Ryobi makes this flagship HP circular saw but puts a steel shoe on it? I don't care how powerful or cool it is if I'm always going to have to worry about it being out of square. One drop and you'll be in trouble.

Accd to this video it's an aluminum shoe. The only ferrous parts are the bevel adjustment and rivets. He even shows a magnet not sticking to the shoe right here after 2:00 into the video:

That's also why this one is so much lighter than the 7 1/4.

According to the bullet points on the item page, this saw has a "Durable, lightweight aluminum base".

No.

Don't trust any YouTube reviews for a single product. The best reviews are comparisons between similar products and are less likely to be biased. Project Farm channel is an excellent example of the latter.

And this saw is $55, which is a fair price. How was it worth $300 just because it has 55 inches of track?

So according to you, just because people on youtube do reviews of a product they can't be trusted. Yeah, that makes all kinds of sense.. .. NOT! Ha ha

I don't know if it's worth $300 to you. I'm guessing to some people it is and some it isn't. That being said I never said it was worth $300. I just spoke to the fact the person I responded to was claiming it was cheaply made, yet doesn't own it nor apparently ever even saw it as at the time they were not even in stores yet.

My Skil saw has a steel shoe and it's been in the family for 25 years at least, and like the millions of other older saws with steel shoes in garages and shops around the world, it still works fine and there's nothing wrong with the shoe. Your statement about "one drop and you'll be in trouble" is "balderdash. Dewalt, Milwaukee and other brands still make saws with steel shoes, even some of their newer cordless saws.

A lot of the single product reviews are bought and paid for. - that's always been true on YouTube. It's also why reviewers will sometimes explicitly say that they paid for a product with their own money and have not received any incentives from the company. If they don't say that then you should assume the worst. If you don't then the last laugh is on you. nod

This will sound so dumb, but, here goes. When you say return the batteries, you're just buying the two batteries, the saw, and then walking back in to return the batteries on their own? They don't fight and try to up charge you on the saw? Because I could definitely benefit from this upgraded circular but have no need for the batteries since I have a ton of 4ah.
