It's not hard for me. A rental is $4 so $5 for the ability to play the movie whenever I want until apple and vudu goes out of business is a great deal.
True we don't own digital movie purchases. But it's also true for all digital purchases. Steam games, Audible books, Itunes music, etc. The only way to avoid that is to not buy anything which is not physical.
So when you buy a Bluray for a price and then 4k Blue ray came out, did you expect them to give you the 4k for free? Same with DVD to Blueray? Same with cassette to CD?
And your answer to all of this is to do something illegal?
This guy needs to be banned.

Unforgiven 4k UHD is on Google Play. I wonder if it is a good version to get?
The other web sites have it only in HD...

FYI.

I've been researching 4k streaming and most of what I have found says it is better to play a local 1080 bluray than to stream 4k because of all the streaming compression ( both the video and audio are highly compressed )

I did read 1 thing that said the small exception to this is that compressed HDR might appeal to some people compared to non-HDR bluray

Amazon will be around a lot longer than Vudu .. over the past 8 years several online video companies have gone out of business.

FYI.

I'm not an expert, but this is some info I've been trying to research.

There are a lot of early Blu-ray's that suffer from "disc rot", a phenomenon I was unaware of until one day I pulled out my OG Superman Blu-ray(from the early days of the format) and it just wouldn't play. Tried to contact WB about a replacement years ago but never heard back.
My Stargate (Kurt Russell) Blu-ray won't play, which is now OOP and too expensive to rebuy, so I'm aware that Blu-ray discs can degrade. However, it currently is the only Blu-ray disc I have THAT I'M AWARE OF which has rotted. Is there a list of titles most likely to rot, or do all discs before a certain time rot? BTW, what is "OG Superman"? You mean the first Blu-ray release of Superman with Christopher Reeve?

I agree with this from experience. Streaming, even at 4K resolution, can still have compression artifacts and the bitrate of streaming is nowhere near the bitrate of a Blu-ray or 4K disc. However, the HDR dynamic color sometimes gives the image a "pop", especially on animated features, that makes HDR streaming preferable over non-HDR Blu-ray.
