I'm on 7 years with mine and it's like new. Cover it and use vegetable oil on the metal parts.

Would highly recommend getting the pizza stone for this. More so for extended smoking.

May grab the orange with the pizza stone. Can use it to make cookies in these too.

Setting the size aside, how does this compare to the 100/267 Walmart deal for the expert grill Kamado? Anyone know the specific pros and cons of each?

I have this grill and it works great, but rusted out badly in 4 years. Would recommend a ceramic grill instead if weight is not a problem.

Agree 100% - the pizza stone both blocks direct high heat you don't want for smoking and adds mass to help stabilize your temperatures. It also provides a platform to add a water dish for those of you who like using one. It took me a while to get used to the acorn style smoker but it works well, uses fairly little fuel, and takes up little space. Not a lot of room - so don't expect to fit a whole brisket on here but I can fit about two chuck roasts or one pork shoulder.

I had the large Akorn and got about 2 years out of it before it was a rust bucket.

This was $100 in the past year. I got one years ago for $130 at Lowes. It is probably the best pound for pound grill there is. It gets to 700 F. I don't need mine anymore though because I got greedy and bought two ceramic kamados.

Love this thing. It's a pork butt machine! Quick tip-get a canning basket from Walmart and an old 10" cast iron skillet and cut the handle off. Insert these under the grate-disperses heat and you can fill with liquid or catch drippings. Pizza stone will work too but not as well.

Can't open the link. This is now pretty common on SD for some reason.
