Still, one thing I will say is even around 2006 I was saying that this was a game that people would still be playing in 20 years. Nobody believed me then but I was correct.
It really is a great game.

The monthly price still gives you a massive amount of entertainment. Definitely worth it *if* you find it fun. Unfortunately, I don't anymore. Another plus is you get to experience Wrath for free (along with sub) when it starts up in a few weeks. If I could retire for a year, I'd probably just no life Wrath..
Still this deal is pretty good, although they always give you the prev expac for free after the new one releases anyway. The boost is nice, but getting to level 50 doesn't take that long (20 hrs or so).
Good post though, and I claimed the item (and the freebie mog from above — thank you for that )
The lore (although laughable in some parts) is still some of the best fantasy stuff ever created. For that at least it still holds true.

If you're itching for that feeling of 10-15 years ago, I suggest playing a new game and getting hooked on it instead. If you haven't played it, Guild Wars 2 is on Steam, the base game is free and there's no subscription.
Final Fantasy 14 has a subscription model, but it's arguably the best MMO to release since…well, GW2 and WoW. It has a slow start, but once you hit the mid-game it really begins to cook.
Other than that, it's kind of a crapshoot. Star Wars The Old Republic is still around and does story telling very well (this is pre-Disney SW, thank god). I hear Fallout 76 is improved. If multiplayer isn't your bag anymore, No Man's Sky offers great feeling of exploration.
