The stated coverage of 4 square feet, 2X2, is probably correct. Maybe even an overstatement. I stood next to this type of heater at an outside bar in Upstate NY on a fall night. From 2 feet away I felt no heat. It looked beautiful, but provided absolutely no warmth.
The umbrella units are much better. Throw heat around 6 feet away. You can feel it sitting down. It also warms my deck in the fall if its not windy. The umbrella units can melt the top of a 40 inch vinyl railing if its too close.
I eventually installed electric heaters.
