The bestselling author of The Martian returns with an irresistible new near-future thriller—a heist story set on the moon.

Jasmine Bashara never signed up to be a hero. She just wanted to get rich.

Not crazy, eccentric-billionaire rich, like many of the visitors to her hometown of Artemis, humanity's first and only lunar colony. Just rich enough to move out of her coffin-sized apartment and eat something better than flavored algae. Rich enough to pay off a debt she's owed for a long time.

So when a chance at a huge score finally comes her way, Jazz can't say no. Sure, it requires her to graduate from small-time smuggler to full-on criminal mastermind. And it calls for a particular combination of cunning, technical skills, and large explosions—not to mention sheer brazen swagger. But Jazz has never run into a challenge her intellect can't handle, and she figures she's got the 'swagger' part down.

The trouble is, engineering the perfect crime is just the start of Jazz's problems. Because her little heist is about to land her in the middle of a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself.

Trapped between competing forces, pursued by a killer and the law alike, even Jazz has to admit she's in way over her head. She'll have to hatch a truly spectacular scheme to have a chance at staying alive and saving her city.

Jazz is no hero, but she is a very good criminal.

That'll have to do.

Propelled by its heroine's wisecracking voice, set in a city that's at once stunningly imagined and intimately familiar, and brimming over with clever problem-solving and heist-y fun, Artemis is another irresistible brew of science, suspense, and humor from #1 bestselling author Andy Weir.

Many readers who devoured The Martian and loved that book seemed not to care as much for Artemis. I read both and very much enjoyed both for different reasons. The Martian is a survival-at-all costs thriller, Artemis is a slacker-gets-caught-up-in-heist-and-politics in a lunar colony setting. The descriptions of everyday life and tourism, to include the restrictions that come with living, working and visiting the lunar city/colony of Artemis are fascinating...it's the kind of narrative that Andy Weir excels at. I'd recommend Artemis at full price...at this discounted price, GO FOR IT.
I enjoyed Weir's Project Hail Mary more than The Martian. Artemus was my least favorite out of the three. I can never get into moon based stories.
Does this Artemis also have trouble taking off?

I've read The Martian multiple times. Am reading Project Hail Mary again. Artemis will not be read again. It's like an entire book of Mark Watneys. He can't write female characters. Just not an enjoyable read.

I recently listened to the audio book and overall enjoyed the story. I felt like the story and space aspects were fun. I didn't totally love the main character and felt like she had a little forced sexuality in her that didn't always feel natural and some of her dialogue felt a little off. I still recommend it and like the concepts of a space colony and moon economy. I think this is a reasonable price for the book and would recommend overall but don't expect it will be the top choice for most.

Great book if you like the main character and everyone around her talking about how slutty she is with no relevance to the plot.
Lol. Yep. Especially in moon land where nobody cares except they obviously do.

I wouldn't say it's a bad book, though, in terms of realistic space welding highjinx. Just not great.

Borrow Artemis from the library, and own Project Hail Mary.

Project Hail Mary was my first from Weir, so I immediately got Artemus after finishing PHM. It lost my interest immediately.
Project Hail Mary audiobook especially, was one of the best things I've ever read/listened to. The narration was just so good, I wish it never ended.

Does this book explain how Artemis incorporates a dumpster bun into the love making? Frank is a fan.

Not as good as the Martian or his more recent one Hail Mary, but not too shabby. Reminded me of an old Heinlein story.

Wow, so many haters... I listened to this on audible last year and was completely enamored with it. I like the unique but simple plot and story line. I guess I need to read Project Hail Mary. I've watched The Martian, but I've not read it. So I'll add that to my list to.

I enjoyed Artemis, but much less than The Martian. At this price point there is little downside to just getting it and giving it a shot.

This. I loved the Martian and really liked Project Hail Mary (as another person said, the Audiobook is phenomenally narrated), but I think Weir just doesn't know how to write female characters. In Project Hail Mary, it's fine, because while there are significant female characters, they're not the main character, but the protagonist of Artemis is a young woman, and it's grating how poorly she's written.

Absolutely!! I also picked up Hail Mary a few months ago and am so looking forward to reading that, too! I just generally like Andy Weir as an author...good stuff.
