In my opinion the cards with the highest discounts are in this order:
6900XT, 6800XT, 6700XT, 3090Ti, 3090, 3080Ti, 3070, then 308012GB.
I don't see Nvidia's announcement affecting much. People will be disappointed because they're likely releasing only the 4090 and 4080. The 4070 is going to be held off from launching until Q1 2023 at the earliest (I don't expect Nvidia to say in the announcement). Mainly because they don't want to devalue midrange cards. The 4080 launching is still up in the air, but Nvidia will mainly launch cards that outperform 3080Ti/3090. If they can get the 4080 to perform better and not consume so much power, than it's a green light. This is pretty much the same play like the 20 series where they launched them to co-exist with the 10 series cards and not devalue Pascal midrange cards. The heaviest discounts will come from the cards mentioned above. If you're waiting for an nvidia card, it will be slightly harder. The prices coming down will primarily come from the used market getting many cards (but not a flood of them like people assume). This will gradually increase as miners start to sell them off. Not all miners are dumping everything on the week after the switch of Ethereum to POS. I see 6900XTs being closer to $600 ($629?) and 6800XTs near $500 by November. People waiting on Nvidia cards to drop will see the ones listed above drop slightly further or stay in their current price because Nvidia will likely price 40 series higher than the current values of 30 series (4090 at $1500, 4080 at $899 if faster than 3090). The most commonly low priced cards will come from the brands people avoid (Gigabyte, Zotac, Yeston, XFX, or MSI). The top brands like EVGA, Sapphire and Asus won't have drops in prices as much as the others. After the announcement, people will then wait another period because of people saying to wait for benchmarks by tech youtubers and websites to debate on the 4080 being worth its announced price. The next time prices of 30 series and RX 6000 cards are influenced is when AMD releases their RX7000 series cards near the end of this year (November?). Got to see that a glut of overstock is on the high end cards because they were maximizing profits from the high demand from miners. If you're looking at $400 and below range of cards like the 3060Ti, then you're going to have a hard time waiting.
TLDR
Don't buy high end cards now (3080/6800XT and higher). wait a few more weeks. If you're looking at $400 and below for a card, just pick up the 3060Ti FE from Best Buy when it comes back in stock. or a 6700XT for less than $400.

What's everyone thinking about for the lowest price? I'm guessing around $400 - $500 for 6800xt/3080 cards maybe this year. It could also be higher due to stocks decreasing. I noticed all the 3080 ti models on the EVGA website being sold out, except for the cheapest model.

Update:
Ignore the EVGA comment, they have since announced leaving the GPU market.

It's the 8th. In 7 more days Ethereum will merge and in 12 more days Nvidia will announce not launch the 40 series. Unless you will be dead within the next couple of weeks, I suggest you wait and see. It could save you more money. IMO, the perfect window to buy is somewhere after the 20th announcement and before the 40 series launch window. Also, by then if you decided that the 40 series Rays is just too good to pass up, I suggest you start camping out at your local Bestbuy or Microcenter.

Hold. I think the lowest prices will still come around when the new nvidia and amd cards are announced and/or available.
in a normal market, that's usually around the time, or in the few months after is the best time, aside from some fire sale after that to unload excess stock still not moving.
right now it's a game of where's the bottom before inventory runs out, and I've not gotten any inclination that stocks are starting to get anywhere near low.
I too am looking at around the 500 mark for the 3080 and 6800xt, esp if the 6900xt is any indication. the 6800xt still has plenty of room to go down.

Y'all telling others to hold the line... wait... I always laugh because I think to myself, "How much, really, are these things going to drop once new cards come out?" Like, $50? How many months until comparable cards come out? Like sometimes a year or more? Y'all really going to wait around for a $50 drop a year from now? I bought my GPU back in 2020. People were saying the exact same thing: "Just wait until the new GPUs come out!" Prices only went up from there because of scarcity. They are just recently coming back down. What I boil this down to is that you can always sit around and wait because "X is coming!" But if it's a good card for you, and you have the money now, just get it.

I also don't expect prices to drop big when they announce next gens, but certainly prices won't go up and there will be no availability or scalping issues in today's condition. So if you can, it will never hurt to wait for a few weeks, or months.

But I'm not that optimistic on their pricing. I see new prices for current gen are converging towards like 3080/3080Ti/3090 to $700/$800/$1000 under the disguise of discounts. This made be doubt if they will price 4080 any lower than $800, if not $900~$1000.

When the 2080 launched, they priced it $800 intentionally because it performs better than the 1080Ti. The 2070 didn't release until weeks or a month later but it didn't outperform the 1080Ti so it was priced accordingly at $600. The 2070 Super is a refresh of it but was priced $500. Why would you price something better lower? Because AMD came out of nowhere with their 5700XT priced at $400. it negates buying a 1080Ti for $650 or a weaker 2070 at $600.

If it wasn't for the immense stock they are currently having and to many of the new chips ordered from TSMC I would say you are right. However they sit on way to many cards and they ordered way to many chips because when the ordered the new chips they did so with crypto mining in mind and yeah that is a bust now. So yeah if they really wanna sell all that stuff they will have to make some sacrifices... and I assume they will.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable. I've just seen enough times where people said to wait, and some other factor came into play where it would have made more sense to just go ahead and buy. It would be like never buying into the stock market because people say you need to wait for a downturn. Well, when the downturn happens, then people will say to wait for the bottom. But no one knows when the downturn will happen or where the bottom is! So I guess I'm just bringing balance to all the "WAIT, HOLD" folks and trying to be realistic. Smilie

I'm so sick of this comment. You guys aren't soldiers fighting a battle. You're nerds waiting for something to drop that isn't really going to drop much further (if any further) when the new cards come out. Also, no one is going to be able to get the new ones, because of the still ongoing chip shortage and a race against bots online, and then they're all going to scramble to get these ones, because they're sick of waiting so long. Moral of the story is, if you see a card for a good price, grab it, because there is zero guarantee you're going to get it at a significantly better price later. So many people are going to find that they missed out on a great price, because they "held the line."
