Shogun is such a great book that even its 1200+ pages feel too short. You want the story to go on forever.

Love that series. Read Noble house and shogun a few times and the others once, except whirlwind, which despite trying twice I couldn't get more than a couple hundred pages into it before losing interest.

I'm also a big fan of the movies.

Such a great series, even the two weakest books (Whirlwind and Gai Jin) are a good time.

EDIT: IIRC Escape is just part of whirlwind told as a seperate story. Don't waste your money on that.

This is a really good series. It's been years since I read them. I think it's time to read them again.

Other than the obvious pick, Shogun, what would be considered 2nd/3rd best in the saga?

I remember being enthralled reading Shogun summer 1980. What was her name, Mariko?

mho Tai Pan & Noble House. Noble House is set in modern times but don't let that put you off.

...and then you find out there's a whole epic series to disappear into. I read four back to back. King Rat finally snapped me out of it.

Great Books! I recommend these audibles to friends who don't have time to sit & read. I go back to Shogun once in a while. While no one asked, another book who's story is engaging & has an occasion deal on it - "Exodus" by Leon Uris. Anyone have any recommendations similar to Shogun style story? (Doesn't have to be set in asia).
