So can anyone suggest a good quality / well supported & feature-full modern PCIE 802.11 NIC chip that does support AP mode as an alternative when I want to use AP mode in a PC based router or gateway?

For 6ghz you need to wait for a board to come out with an MT7916 on it aka Filogic 630:

Adendum and beware! - ordered a Fenvi network card for my laptop from Newegg as it was a couple $$ less than Amazon. When it arrived it did not fit my laptop, my fault, no big deal just return it right? I sent it back the next day in perfect resellable package exactly as it arrived however days later I get an email from Fenvi stating that of the $24 they charged me they were refunding me $4.58 total docking me for $20 return shipping costs?!?!?! WTF? They argued that this is their standard policy in fine print. Lesson to me is NEVER doing business with Newegg again, I'll gladly pay the couple extra bucks for knowing other retailers will accept returns without ridiculously high return charges.
so hassle-free returns doesn't apply - but the OP failed to mention that; yet he trolls NE at every opportunity
