FYI Fire Toolbox is limited on newest Fire OS. I forgot to disable OTA on my daughter's HD8 and now Play Store is broken and won't install nor update apps.

FYI, the description is wrong here, but correct on QVC, the HD8 doesn't have wireless charging. Only the HD8 Plus does.

$30 is a great deal. I already have Fire HD 8 (2020) and Fire HD 8+, otherwise I will get it.
I use it only for playing YouTube or music. The battery lasts more than half a day. I paid around $50 or $60
Another thing I may consider. Every Thanksgiving, Amazon has Black Friday sale. If you trade in your old device, you get $5 to $20 trade in value, plus 20% discount over a purchase of new device.
The total saving definitely exceeds $30.

8" tablets are not practical. Go with at least 10". You will also get HD instead of 800p.

I got one of these last time, when they came with a voucher for a free case. Pretty good for what it is. Nice for reading stuff on. Nice in-between size from a phone and a real tablet. I used the Fire Toolbox and put MoonReader+ on mine and have a bunch of documents and manuals and stuff on it.

Yup, these are great and cheap options for this. I've got 9 of these for every room in the house and pair them up with ActionTiles. You can also use Amazon's built-in smart home control feature if you want to skip on ActionTiles.
