For a surf, email, single task (office apps) don't need a newer processor....except maybe battery life? If I get 3-4 hours out of light use it serves my needs and I think the price/build ratio makes it a good choice. I have been looking for a few weeks at newer processor laptops and I think it would cost me $75-$100 more for an entry level where the build would be much less substantial.

Secondary attractions include usb-c with Displayport (and possibly also with power delivery or thunderbolt). The HDMI is however only 1.4 and not 2.0. So you get two video outputs with one being 4k60hz vs only a single video out 4K60hz for the acer
This 7390 is also a bit faster than the acer with the ryzen 3350.
Acer has longer 2yr warranty
Other than that, they both very similar features of backlit keys, single sodimm limted to 2400. 1080p IPS screen, one nvme slot. The acer however can also take a 2.5 in drive.
I think excpet warranty,
- power delivery on usb c
- form factor , can be used one handed
- display on c
makes the travel packing light with dell, ordered 2 in 1 i5. Will get it tomorrow, will need to confirm ssd. And it sleep for months, lol.
Note it is not the CPU overheating. It seems to be the power chip on the MB, but possibly related to the CPU being under load and the power chip needing the supply power higher than its specification. Turning off Turbo will help limit the peak power usage thus might help in this situation.
But Intel CPUs have very low base frequencies (under 2GHz, less than half of the Turbo). The point of the Turbo is really to get work done quickly then go back to the low power state (which helps web browsing immensely because you only need the processing power when navigating between pages, once the page is loaded it can go back to low power state). So the implication of turning off Turbo means your web browsing and other intermittent interaction becomes slowers (by a factor of 2). On the other hand, it will not hurt constant load such as video rendering as much because sustain performance given the thermal limit is likely closer to the base frequency anyway.
That was my take away anyhow. It seems a cpu monitoring app might be a useful watchdog. OTOH, it appears only to be a possible solution, there was nothing conclusive

Smh, we are so close to BF and i bit on the 'business grade build' quality when these are likely to be lemons.

The battery health is showing as excellent in the diagnostic mode and in power manager app. The charger also seems new, as it is plastic wrapped. Will see how good the rest of the system is.
Would appreciate if others can also share their experiences once they receive their devices.
Thanks.
Surprised that it;s not really much smaller or lighter weight than my motile laptop....lol...
Also, anyone else surprised by the 90W power adaptor that came with it??? i was expecting only a 65W adaptor. If this thing really try to pull up to 90W, then we can see why that reported chip meltdown could be a problem.

battery reports as excellent and was received with about 90% charge
I did go into the bios and disabled the turbo. if I get the performance I require that is where it will stay.
So far I see that the screen has plenty of brightness...I have it turned down to 40%. Graphics are fine but not great (as in it's not something that stands out as excellent)
I don't love the keyboard. It seems I am missing a lot of characters when I type. IOW, the keys don't respond all that well to a light touch. It might just need a little getting used to, but so far it's a little annoying
As of this moment it's a very good deal. If there ends up being repair issues, of course that will sour the deal

You can actually also set how much you want the battery to be charged up to to increase battery lifespan. I set mine to only 75% since it's mostly will be plugged in. hopefully that will prevent the long term battery bloating
Notebookcheck has a nice review: https://www.notebookche
I installed HD sentinel which didn't detect that SMART error. So I am not sure what is going on. Anyway, it says my ssd has 11TB written. Not bad for a 256GB ssd. I suppose i can replace that with an nvme drive which is fairly cheap now.
