4k model (the one I would buy) is also on sale for $40, down from normal price of $50. This is the "new," one that is worse than the old one that's normally $30 and on sale for $20.
You got the old one, the new one was released on September 22nd.

Unless I'm mistaken what he means is:

OLD: 4k chromecast /w google tv
NEW: 1080p chromecast /w google tv

AFAIK all other chromecast models are just for casting, only the two listed above have a smart tv OS.
comes with 6 months Peacock Premium

The terminology to look for is "sideloading an app". You download the APK file, load the file to the storage on the streaming device, and then a few more steps to install the app. This method is needed because the app is not in the Google Play store or similar app store. This article may help you understand better. https://www.androidpolice.com/how...ndroid-tv/ [androidpolice.com] The article says Android TV but the same method should apply to streaming devices. Here's another article but it's older, same concepts. https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-...ndroid-tv/ [makeuseof.com]

I've no idea which devices do or do not allow sideloading. For the money the Onn device which supports 4K sold at Walmart is a Slickdeal. But the Onn device does not do Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos. If your television has support for Dolby Vision then this might be a concern if you watch lots of movies and TV shows. Atmos is a surround sound format. If you do not have a big multi speaker setup or an Atmos compatible sound bar thing you need not worry. TV sets older than a few years likely did not come with Dolby Vision as it's newer tech. Hope this helps!

Now I'm curious to know if the Onn 4K device for 19.99 at Wal-Mart does in fact allow side loading. If so that's mighty tempting for loading it up with certain apps that enhance privacy and remove advertising!
ONN 4K definitely supports side loading. Source: Me. I own two and have sideloaded apks on both.

Does anyone know if there is anyway to play content from a flash drive with this. The onn Google TV device on here a few months back allows you to plug in a flash drive via an OTG cable connected to the power port. Can this do that too?

You are able to do that with Chromecast Google TV.

Though if you wanted to, I might would choose the Onn just because it can sit on a surface. The Chromecast has a hardwired HDMI and is meant to hang from your TV in the back. So I imagine it can get messy if you buy a USB-C hub or OTG dongle that would also hang off the back of your TV.

Was there a real big calling for a downgraded 1080p version? Seems counterproductive as the 4k version can downgrade to 1080p already, either by change display settings or plugging it into a non 4k tv that will auto default to the highest detected resolution. Like wtf is going on here people it's 100% pointless product, just get the 4k one has HDR, Dolby Vision and all the audio standards too...

Had this setup. The USB cord allows the rest to sit flat on a shelf. I've got one below my tv.

Thanks for the input. I will be using with a projector on a tripod so the dongle form factor is preferred. I have been using the Onn, but it hangs down on the ground.

Thanks for confirming. For $20 seems smarter get the Onn product since it has 4K support and seems to be a newer device too. The Google device in this deal is only 1080 and seems to be older model. Like someone else said, it was a lost Google remote that started this journey for me. Instead of replacing the lost Google remote for over $20 will just buy the Onn device and enjoy better resolution and newer system architecture. Amazing how inexpensive these devices are and to think you can sideload whatever you want Applause Repped you.

I'm not buying anything else from any company until someone can put at least 32gb of storage. It's 2022 not 2014

Rofl. Where did I say x was better than y for smart TV platform. We are talking about comparing a $200 product with a $20 here.
Lol. Your posts had nothing to do with the product. You were bashing people for bashing people 🤡

I dont think theres much to be gained in moral character by saying that comparing a $150+ machine to a $20 stick essentially makes no sense, and I do agree with that.
Lol. Read his posts. He's call people names in nearly the same breath that he is saying others here are flaming each other. Lol. Pot calling the kettle black 🤡

Was looking into this versus the Roku awhile back. After researching I found that the $20 Onn Android 4K TV streamer was highly spoken of on Slickdeals and elsewhere and seemed to be the better product at the $20 price point. https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-An.../636597403 [walmart.com] It does include the six months of Peacock too.
As a chromecast with Google TV owner, I also bought that ONN device. The big downside for me is it uses Micro USB instead of USB C, which made it a pain to use USB C hubs with.

It's not bad for ppl with 1080p cheap projector like the $55 WeWatch that was FP last week. I already got an old Chromecast to pair mine with but if I didn't, this would be perfect. $75 totally for a pretty decent setup.
