This is a great upgrade for older cars that lack a smart AV dashboard - but this doesnt do much more than my pre-Android/Apple Auto smart dash even. I can control spotify through my car controls already there.

This would have been more useful with some kind of Google Assistant or Alexa integration and the ability to be a full "second screen" - not just for spotify, but for maps or something else as well.

Not sure if this would sway people, but it looks like someone has rooted the Spotify Car Thing [github.io]. No major developments yet apart from that.

Bought the Spotify Car Thing a few days ago. Not remotely planning to use it in the car but damn this thing is awesome for my Gaming/Workspace at home.

My biggest problem with it, and something I just assumed it had and didn't bother checking before I bought it, is that it doesn't have an audio output.

I have a 2010 car without Bluetooth, but with aux in. My normal system was just plugging my phone in via aux cord. That gets to be a pain if I'm making multiple stops throughout a day and I have to plug my phone in and out a half dozen times. Or the cord gets wrapped around my shifter or something.

I thought that the Car Thing had an aux out, so that it could stay permanently plugged in, and I would send the audio signal to it via BT, then that would go through the aux port to my stereo. Instead it just acts as a glorified remote control, which doesn't really accomplish anything because I could just mount my phone as it is.

So it doesn't provide enough IMO to users who don't have a Bluetooth car stereo, not to ones who do.
