Got this radio because it looks like a Sony IFC-S10MK2 and has weather station, I cant even get a FM station less than 2 miles away !! dont pick anything up!! Please dont wast your time with this garbage if your looking for a good transitor radio!!! GARBAGE
Looking at the 1 and 2 star reviews this doesn't seem reliable enough to keep around for an emergency.
How did the OP get the code??
I'm curious as to how these codes are distributed?

This radio may be a good thing to have around as the economy continues to be in a recession. Hopefully, the economy picks up at some point and does not further deteriorate into a full blown depression, as this radio will be one of my only means to get entertainment and news when no one can afford cable TV or streaming rates.

Buying one (radio) now as I may not be able to afford one in the future!

Interesting, I think we all should have one of the old walkmans in our attic or basement or in the junk drawer or somewhere in the garage.. $10 is way too much for basically a very simple receiver. I remember when I was a kid these were the cheapest possible source of entertainment we could get, and batteries lasted FOREVER. $10 is a bit too much, though, probably dropship, more like $3.99?
Agreed I have the good old zombie radio in my basement

Great question, cuts through all the static in these comments.

Can anyone who is knowledgeable suggest a top-quality pocket-size NOAA weather radio?
Is this at $22 the sweet spot, or is there something more optimal:
Baofeng UV-5R Two Way Radio Dual Band 144-148/420-450Mhz Walkie Talkie 1800mAh Li-ion Battery(Black) https://a.co/d/cYljL1k

Stay away, I got this last time for about $10 too (or was it less)
anyway heres my take on it.

STAY AWAY!

- very cheap feeling. material is crap chinese build. (not knocking on chinese people I'm chinese)
- poor reception
- almost impossible to tune with the analog dial. and they way they have the channels an no lines to clearly indiciate what channel you are on.
- low volume.

yes you can save it in case of emergency, but in the case of emergency your life and or your familys life depends on it. .. do you want to risk it on..
- its so crappy if you drop it once it potentially dies
- you may not rececive critical trasmission.
- miss critical transmission because you can't tune into the right frequency properly or over shoot the station when tuning.

Spend alittle more to get good quality and reliablaity thats IMHO.

I bought it for emeregency case and endup returning after testing it out. not worth it. for real emergency.

C. Crane CC Pocket AM FM and NOAA Weather Radio with Clock and Sleep Timer

expensive per say but you life depends on it in emrgencies. and it's one of those you buy and it will last for years.

I would recommend standard AA type instead of any recharagable proprietary battery format.

with FM/AM radios batteries last a long time on it.

I've given up on weather radios. The alerts are at the county level vs cell phone alerts being much more localized to cell towers. I don't need to wake up for an emergency 35 miles away in a distant part of my county.
Alert on the county level is a good thing. gives me more time to pack and prepare to escape.

mean while your cell towers may already be blown down or by the time you get alerts at the local level, water is already starting to flood or the local road too damanged to get out..

Thank you. Looks like a good option, looks like a couple AAs will last a couple weeks. Could be essential in a shitstorm.

I totally see what people are saying about the plastic being weak/flexible, but at $10 I think this thing is worth it. Only thing I don't care for about it is the volume control is backwards from how I'd expect it to work. Sounds fine for what it is, picking up stations clearly on all bands. I'm not having any issue with it floating away from any stations. I didn't expect much for $10 though. Just wanted to have something aside for my hand crank/mini-usb weather band radio since mini-usb is even more obsolete than micro-usb and the hand crank only gives about 15 seconds of play for about a minute of cranking. To each their own.

If you want something for your house, get this:

Midland - WR120B/WR120EZ - NOAA Emergency Weather Alert Radio - S.A.M.E. Localized Programming, Trilingual Display, 60+ Emergency Alerts, & Alarm Clock (WR120B - Box Packaging) https://a.co/6mLLxvh

Once you program it, you can pretty much ignore it. If there's a severe weather situation, the sound it emits will definitely get your attention, even if you're asleep.

If you want something for an extended power outage, get a crank radio. Lots of difference ones to choose from.

In terms of something handheld, the advantage of the Baofeng is that it can also transmit, which can save your life in an emergency. You'll need to get a license to operate legally, but, if you spend lots of time in remote areas, it might be worth it.

According to the recent employment report, 100 million Americans don't even work. That's how rich they are. A third of people just enjoy themselves all day, every day, in one of the several homes they own. That's why you can't even drive anywhere during most hours of a work day - a third of the population is out there traveling between their various properties for leisure. Doesn't seem like much of a recession. Seems like abundant wealth. Just gotta rise and grind I guess. Use the Secret. Believe harder. Get them good premium streaming services of your dreams!

I ordered it the last time around. It's crummy. Poor reception. Poor sound. Hard to find the right local station in the weather band. No alerts for weather emergencies. I returned it aftea week. r

This may be a bit bigger than a pocket radio but it's solid and has a crank if you let the rechargeable battery run down. (Also a little solar panel but it's not going to be much help.) And it has a weather alert mode. It has digital tuning and the weather band has the prescribed frequencies as preset stops. Just find which one is yours.
