Had this laptop for 3 months before upgrading to a macbook on the recent Costco deal. Loved it while I had it, some answers for faqs i saw:

Battery life: (close to 10hrs) It dropped 10% per hour with moderate web browsing and Excel, but I never let it go below 30% so don't know past that
Screen: 300 nits is a bit low, but the screen is still gorgeous otherwise. The fact that it's matte makes it better outdoors than most
Gaming: ~140fps on League of Legends 1080p and ~80-90fps CS:GO on 900p stretched low. Might be able to push a bit further if you play with the power settings
Speed: Startup times and application start times are lightning fast, honestly faster than my M1 Pro Macbook.

I still have the laptop in case I want to revert back because right now it seems on par with my macbook despite the mac being much heavier. Hope this helps.
This is different from the previous deal I posted a couple of hours back.

Found out that you can actually configure the laptop and get it for cheaper using different coupons. The SSD and OS can be upgraded later on down the road so it's not necessary to pay for them right now and better to invest in a better screen which can't be changed after buying.
The screen is QHD on this one vs the FHD+ on the other deal.
16GB and I never use my laptop in the sun so this is the perfect deal for me. Been waiting for a 6800U at this price point.

Been heavily debating this deal all day in my mind.
With student discount it comes out to $721.09 + I have the $100 AMEX offer. The thing that's got me hesitant is the screen size.
I'm not looking to get this for gaming, mostly for coding on the go and I do so now on a 14" Lenovo IdeaPad 3. This would be an amazing "for years to come" purchase, but that small screen =(
I have the same reservations about the laptop. I have only ever used 15.6 and 14 inch laptops and I am not sure how much different the experience will be on a 13.3 inch screen. I did end up buying this, though. It will be delivered to me mid-November and since purchases now are included in the 'holiday return policy', I have until January 16, 2023 to return it. I can always get another laptop in the meantime and return this one if I end up disliking the screen size.

How's the fan noise by default/ intelligent cooling? I have the g3 amd of this model and the fan is not controlled properly. It likes to spin a lot even on light load and the fan speed change is annoying. Someone in reddit posted a tpfancontrol modifications that's designed for the g4 model. I tried it in my g3 and it works halfway which made it tolerable for me.
Fan noise will definitely depend on use. If you have it on battery saver but you're playing a game, your laptop will be quiet but performance will suffer. If you have it on the other modes (intelligent or extreme) you'll hear it in both modes. You will not hear the fan while web browsing on intelligent unless you have a lot of tabs/videos, then it'll wind up a bit here and there. The fan is never ridiculously loud though imo.

Which do you prefer to use? Seems like the Ideapad is better?
hard to compare. the keyboard, screen, CSGO performance, synergy with my other apple products, battery life, ability to use apps are all better on the macbook.

however, i do miss windows as an OS, the 180 degree hinge, the lighter weight, and the startup times of the thinkbook. I think that if you're going purely performance for dollar the thinkbook cant be beat

it is "AMD Ryzen™ 5 6600U Processor (2.90 GHz up to 4.50 GHz)" instead of 6800

Ordered 10/25. It was supposed to arrive 11/14, but order status shows 12/5 now. Not sure if I will wait that long.

13.3 and 14 is actually a big difference though it seems not much on paper.

Surprisingly I discovered the same - it is half an inch more on each side. 11% more real estate!

It does surprise me that there is such a difference, but I will see soon enough whether I like it. Smilie

It's interesting that you are possibly going to move back to the Thinkbook given all the positives you listed about the Macbook. When you say that the keyboard and screen are better on the macbook, I am curious how much better it is. I assume that the Macbook cannot be that much better or you would likely not consider moving back to the Thinkbook.

I'm in the same boat, miss and want a Windows AMD system - have a MacBook Air m1 that just checks all the basics and does it better. Not to mention the 'thinkbook' logo is lame. Might hold out for a refresh of the HP 13 Envy Ryzen. Or maybe I'm just chasing the dragon.

No 240hz either. Or 3080. Why is anyone even considering this?
240hz 3080 is way more off the road for this.120hz or 144hz is the trends now and huge improve most people can actually feel over 60hz.

Baseline for buying a new laptop in 2023: 120hz 1440p + 16G mem
anything below it is okay to use, but I wouldn't suggest my friend buying any.

Why? Is that because they don't charge the card until it's shipped?
