I agree. This seems like a great deal for a budget laptop that will be perfect fit for the basic office work, internet browsing, and homework machine. Won't make a gamer or power user happy, but for $200 seems very slick for the specs.

I haven't seen anything better in the $250 or under range lately.

Seems like a decent deal compared to the other $99 Gateway's because this has 8gb RAM and 1080P display. One comment suggests a bad trackpad.

Not obsolete. This 4core 8 thread cpu can still do a fair amount of task at very good speed. It's significantly faster than the 3350u cpu on the recent acer $193 deal.

What concerns me more is the lack of ability to upgrade the ram. as well as lack of backlit keys. Also, whether HDMI is 2.0 or not as well as if usb-c with displayport or not is also a big question.

This is basically a redo of the Motile 14. They were a steal at $300 2.5 years ago. For general computing this is still a good deal. It's single channel RAM which hurts for gaming.

Not quite. The motile had backlit keys and was upgradable. Pretty big step down.

Considering to buy it for elderly relative, only basic tasks to perform: internet surfing, youtube and skype. I don't care about issues with trackpad as someone mentioned here, as external mouse will be used 100% of time. My concerns are overall reliability, anyone can share their experience regarding this?

It's dope. These cheaper laptops from gateway are rebranded bigger name chinese builds. I have a few and love them.

Ryzen 3500U obsoleted? oh boy... people its damn crazy Intel N4020 its damn almost in any budget lap and have a CPU mark of 1563 and this "obsoleted" CPU have 7063.
