What makes this cable potentially better than most:
- From a reputable company (unless outsourced and QC not monitored)
- fewer (chaining of) contacts - each connector-pair adds resistance, plus each of its crimps (insulation strain-relief and the wire itself) is a point-of-failure
- (unverified) better contacts? - Beryllium Copper gives the best tradeoff of raw conductivity and contact pressure (spring memory retention- tolerant to unplug cycles)
- Can avoid supposed root issue by bending the wire away from the connector if there's enough room. 3 tie wraps can retain the bend of the wire. Side bends (along the row of pins) seems worse.
With all that in mind, I would be careful selecting those aftermarket 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 adapters, since advertised specs barely include what gauge they use - cheap male/female connectors would not make 14/16 gauge the weak link. Difficult to verify if brand-named connectors/hoods are used, so keep unplug-cycles down and avoid skew/pulling forces near the back of the connector body.Concerning cables using 90-degree connectors - some are made IDC style (Insulation Displacement). While the automotive world mostly use good ones, I'm skeptical of even the double-fang'ed ones out in electronics commodity.
