Quality is crap.
Any proof to back up this bold statement? As far as I know, k&n makes quality products. At the very least, can't be worse than Qstate or Pennzoil or worse, Super Tech from Walmart ( or any other house brand from any auto parts store). Besides, if you change your oil at regular interval, most any oil should be adequate given you don't live in extreme temperature states or abuse/ neglect your engine.
I'm in for 3...0w-20, 5w-20 & 5w-30. I don't change my own oil anymore since the arrival of my twins but this is more than adequate for topping off. Most of my vehicles have higher mileage and needs topping off in between oil change, so this is great buy.

What the heck, gonna give it a go. Need some soon, and got duped by Pennzoil on their last rebate deal (yes, followed the requirements to a T), and my Grainger 'big o box of oil' order got cancelled...unless anyone is aware of a better deal out there (sans any rebates, other item cancelation gyrations, etc.)?

Thanks OP! Got 10 quarts of 0w20 and a K&N oil filter for $51.95 before tax. I added two gallons and two quarts because it was cheaper than buying the 5qt jug. Price was originally 57.95 but you get 20% off oil with code MOTOROILBDL when you add a filter. More info here: https://www.knfilters.com/bundle-...oil-bundle
Thanks for the info. I selected three 4qt. jugs of 0W-20 and a filter. Subtotal was $49.97.

I think the word is "negates". I don't really agree with the assessment. Full synthetics still offer better protection in a 5,000 mile interval.
If you own Toyotas or Hondas, you change oil when the vehicle light comes on or in the case of Hondas, 15% oil life remains. By this time, the mileage record is between 5 & 6k miles if using synthetic. Most of the time, follow your vehicles guide and it should be fine.

This does not seem at all relevant to my post. It seems like standalone advice that should have been its own post.

I also don't believe those maintenance reminders are sophisticated enough to tell the difference between what oil is in the sump. I do agree though that most people are fine to just follow manufacturer's recommendations.

read who makes this and what the rating (or should I say failure) score is.

They make great filters but I'll stick with Mobil 1, gold standard!

SuperTech full synthetic oil is actually a very good oil. Tested to be on par with expensive oils like Mobil1.
Yes, it actually has more additives than Napa per a detailed comparison from a few years ago. As I mentioned, I use both.

Not trying to be nit-picky but what synthetic would you consider to be less than very good? The standards don't really indicate quality when your getting into separating synthetic oils by quality.

On the one hand, it amounts to $19 for 5qts. which is a decent price. On the other hand, I don't want to normalize oil manufacturers selling 4qt. jugs. I guess I'll do it.
Yeah, it's not a bad price, but also not a great deal either. Somewhere in between for lacking rebate Hassel.

However, your second point is spot on, others seem to agree. Many times manufacturers shrink the container as a less noticible way to increase prices. On the consumer end that is nothing short of complete horse $hit and mildly deceptive! We should avoid it when possible.

Once the oil bottle is opened it will start losing effectiveness and best used within a year.
I feel like this statement is also missing the refrigerate after opening clause. Lol

Typical engine oils, especially synthetic are very shelf stable after opening.
