Please be careful before pulling the trigger! I was just about to buy and took another look. This item is a different model from the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS System, 1500VA/1000W, 12 Outlets, AVR, Mini Tower unit that you see elsewhere and on Amazon.

The Costco model is a stripped down version of the Amazon one with a different model number! You can google to see the different specs on Cyberpower's website, but in a nutshell the Costco model:
- the regular price is the CyberPower SUGGESTED list price ... so Costco has not been selling this mdel at a discount. But now it is $30 off.
- The Costco model has 100 less watts of backup (1000 vs 900)
- The Costco model has a SMALLER BATTERY .... 12v 7Ah vs. 12v 9Ah ... hence the lower rating and runtime.
- The Costco model has 10 outlets as opposed to 12 outlets
- The Costco model has lower output on the USB charging ports
- The Costco model does not appear to have the color display, nor all the buttons
- The Costco model has a smaller input voltage spec
- The Costco model has a STRAIGHT power plug whereas the other has the nicer Right angle plug << Seems they both have right angle plugs per posts
- The Costco model has a lower Joule dissipation rating

There are quite a few more changes ... but I do believe that Costco used to sell the better version for a good price. I am not sure. Unfortunately I was waiting for the "better" version to come on sale. I will NOT be buying this stripped down version, but your own mileage may vary.
The shut down issue is a deal killer for me. They don't turn back on when the power returns. Worse than having no backup at all.
If you live nearby a warehouse, consider getting it shipped there for customer pickup vs straight to your residence. Lots of complaints of damaged packaging when shipped to one's place (I returned 3 of 3 that were all bashed up and I wasn't going to chance using them). When I did warehouse pickup, it was double boxed and no indication it was mishandled by the courier.

If you've shopped at Costco, you would have already known they would carry different models vs. mainstream. Now, the model you are talking about is $220.

So, if you want/need all those features, then the extra $70 is worth it. I personally want a stripped down model and pay $70 less. Your call.

My biggest grip with CyberPower is when the battery goes, it won't even act as a surge, you just flat out lose those plugins until the battery is replaced. We're talking useless outlets when you actually have power. This is not the case with APC.

The third-party Amazon batteries have been fine for me. Replaced my OEM batteries 4 years ago and they're still alive and have carried me through a few voltage issues.
Thanks for the info. If price is the deciding factor, 3rd party is cheaper
Still seems like OEM is the better way to go for about $20 more.
  • third-party (non-OEM) batteries are sold individually @ $35
  • CP1500PFCLCD: Number of Batteries Required for a Full Replacement: 2
  • Warranty: Please contact the seller directly for warranty information for this product
  • OEM CyberPower RB1280X2B UPS Replacement Battery Cartridge comes with two 12V/8Ah sealed lead-acid batteries @ $89.99
  • USER-INSTALLABLE CARTRIDGE: Allows for quick and convenient installation; each cartridge is pre-assembled
  • The RB1280X2B comes in reusable packaging for delivering expired batteries to recycling centers
  • OEM18-MONTH WARRANTY: Covers defects in materials and worksmanship within eighteen months of the purchase date

Batteries are sold in pairs in this size. I wouldn't be worried about aftermarket batteries, SLA batteries are well trodden stuff no need to worry about OEM

Most likely still has the flammable yellow glue and these units shut down ALL power (not just battery powered) if battery is degraded
Agreed. I have a bunch of these and they are such a pain in the ass when the battery degrades. Which most batteries haven't lasted more than a year on all three of mine.

somethings not right if the batteries are not lasting more then a year as they should last at least 5-6 years at least. if you have a lot of power dips and.or power outages where the unit is switching over to battery that will wear out the batteries faster,

This Costco model should be compared to the OLD version of the CP1500PFCLCD UPS rather than the new version with the color screen.

I purchased this UPS model back in 2017 from BHphoto https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...e_ups.html [bhphotovideo.com]
The specs are pretty much identical to the Costco model.

Also, purchased this CST1500S last year and can confirm it uses a right-angle plug. It says the plug style is a "right angle, 45 deg offset right" on the pdf spec sheet...
I got one as well during that same sale of 2017 and it is exactly the same, spec wise, as this Costco model. The battery is nearly 5 years old but still going strong. I'm not using it for anything super power hungry, but it has lasted longer that I would normally expect a typically battery to last for.

For $150, this isn't bad. I'm pretty sure I snagged this for around $130, but if you include inflation, this price as actually cheaper.

I have a CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD PFC purchased July 2016 that I used for my computer. It worked fine for years but it has been shutting off completely for the last couple months without activating the battery backup. Wasn't sure if it was caused by my computer's new power supply (probably active PFC), or if it was time to replace the battery but I did some research and saw that the unit had a lot of fires due to cheaping out on the glue used on the internals.

I haven't cracked it open yet to see if mine had that problem but I'm fairly certain a large number of them do but for safety measures I just swapped to APC.

Usually that means the batteries are going and to get a new one. That's how mine failed after 4-5 years on the OEM batteries. The aftermarket replacements have lasted me another 4+ years and still going.

Still dumb the UPS can't fail over to line voltage if the battery starts crapping out on you.

you probably just got a bad one. i have this exact model number thats on sale and its been running my whole 600w computer/ monitor/ comcast internet and phone box for 5 years now with no issues, had power go out last week and it still holds charge for 30 minutes while i still use my computer without losing internet. its awesome and ive only turned my computer off or restarted it maybe 4 times in the last 5 years.so its been running all this 24/7 for 5 years

No, opened ticket with cyberpower and if the power is out for a prolonged time after it's already drained it will not come back on without pushing the button. It's a "feature" not a bug. Not the way I expected a UPS to work. Out of the box, not related to battery age.

Was waiting for this price drop. It was advertised in the flyer I got in the mail. I was going to buy the 1350 model but I figured I would wait for $20 more get true sine wave and higher capacity. I have another cyberpower and no issues going on 2 years.

Thanks for pointing this out. Very annoying feature.
They also just shut down even when they have power. I've had way to many of these do things like that, and then nobody is able to replicate, but they'll do it again. not a huge load on them, good batteries, just turn off out of nowhere. Never report and issue on the monitoring usb either, just turn off. I swapped them all with APCs, on the same circuit and equipment, and no issues with them.

Yes, the OEM batteries are sold in pairs, which is what my post stated.

But Not for the third party batteries, at least not THESE batteries on Amazon by third-party sellers for $34.49 [amazon.com]

Specifically states:
  • Unit Count 1 Count
  • Number of Batteries Required for a Full Replacement: 2
