I spent $100 on a spyder brand sled that was supposed to be great. It broke on day one with a 40 pound sledder.

I'm going to go the llama route this time. Looks like a much better sled.

In my experience the best ones are the plastic ones, they come in various sizes, the long ones can fit two adults, they're cheap and can take a beating, have owned mine for over 10 years now.

Can you bring an eye out for slides at Costco is usually good if you have a membership and one near you.

The $20 sleds I bought their lasted longer than $100 sled I bought last winter. Plus easy returns

I think it depends on which ones. I got some plastic ones last winter and they broke the first day. I'm tempted to get some cheap ones and hope for the best, but I also thought of going with one of the wirecutter recommendations and spending a bit more

Depends on the type of area you are using it. The large inflatable tubes are more comfortable, but don't go as fast and might get popped by trees and such. The plastic sleds are usually cheap but work pretty well especially if you can touch them before buying. Softer plastics and thicker plastics are less likely to crack. And usually for the price, you can keep around a couple extras for when they do.
