How well do these shoes work for elderly folks at the beach and around the home?
Can't speak for the elderly but a few hours at the beach or in the river they are fine. Not sure I would be able to stay in something like these all day.

I agree with you 100%. I bought a pair of these (different color and more expensive) a few months ago and to me they just are not very comfortable. The hard rubber or plastic is just not something you wear a long time, certainly not without socks.
I usually like the Sperry shoes, but these were some I didn't care for much.
Those hoping for Croc comfort should look elsewhere. These suck. The soles are not thick enough. You'll feel those ground impacts, even on the beach, more than in Crocs.

I bought a pair of these after they were strongly recommended by a boating friend. He warned me that they'd be a bit stiff for a while but then would soften up.
I've since bought five more pairs for myself and others and I basically lived in these over the summer. I've used them boating, camping, at the beach, and just running down to the store. They are super comfortable, slip on and off easily but stay on while swimming, and look pretty cool IMO. I can't recommend them enough, BUT they do need a few good wears to break in.

I spent two weeks in and around a Maine lake last summer with these on my feet and I did not feel that way at all. They were more than sufficient for walking down trails and for through creeks and along rivers.

Thanks. Got one based on your reco. I wear crocs but they tend to get smooth on the bottom after a couple of years and hopefully they last longer.

I guess you haven't owned Crocs. I've owned both of these, and can make the comparison. Actually, anyone can see this. You can tell these have a thinner sole even in pictures; not just when wearing them.

They do, but remain comfortable; unlike the Sperry's.
