2TB has dropped also, down to $169.99 ;

FWIW here's a review of the P41 line compared to similar plus pci3 variant:

I just bought it as KC3000 is OOS on kingstone site (with 10% off coupon it would be $93) and P41 beats KC in benchmarks and rated higher. Worse case, if there will be better deals during BF, we can always return till January. I will keep mine sealed for now

I just canceled this and ordered the Silicon Power 2TB XS70. Other than size, which is better? seems the SP is faster but not sure.

Great price. I have this P41 1TB and a Seagate Firecuda 530 1TB.

This does run on the hotter side. My P41 is about 12-14c warmer than the 530. Albeit, it is in the top PCIe slot (between my 3080 and my i9-12900K), but the difference is still present during idle.

It idles in the mid-40s and peaks in the upper 60's during gaming, with one of the sensors running low 70's. I ended up buying an Acidalie heatsink for it on Amazon ($18.99). This lowered my peak/load temps by around 6-8c, which puts me "within" operating specs, now at around 64c/max.

The 530, this P41, the KC3000, 850(x) and/or 980/990 PRO would be more than enough for anyone's builds in terms of speeds right now. If you're content with 1TB, for $100, it's worth it.

FWIW, the 1TB version has a TBW of 750, the 2TB version is 1200 TBW. https://ssd.skhynix.com/platinum_p41/

The 2TB is also going for a great price. Would prefer this over the Samsung, but I already ordered it lol

Short answer yes. Any Gen 4 ssd will fulfill PS5 ssd requirements. You have to also consider temperature and storage size. You will most likely need to buy a heat sink for this ssd if you plan to game for long durations. Most people get the Samsung 980 pro with heat sink built in for the no hassle option but it's the most expensive route.

Actually, this is (overall) the second fastest drive on the market behind the Samsung 990 Pro (came out after this drive and thus the review). https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews...l-Thoughts

I think there's 2 main factors that explain why you got an incorrect impression of their speeds:
1. You can't compare the quoted speeds from different manufacturers who may use different methodologies. The tweaktown review actually found that the P41 was doing 7321MB/s (which is above the 7000MB/s that SK advertises and above the 7262MB/s of the XS70) according to their methodology.
2. Those quoted figures are the continuous performance. For many everyday uses, such as launching a program, there's a lot of random IO. It turns out that this is an area that the P41 truly dominates (~30% faster than its next closest opponent).

Now, when it comes to real world use, I don't think you'll see noticeable difference between the two drives except for size, so if you got the XS70 for less than $170 (price of the 2TB P41), that's probably the correct drive to buy.

Are you sure? I'm pretty confident there are plenty of gen4 that don't meet the 5500MB/s requirement. Sure, they'll work fine for now, until a game requires the 5500MB/s. Then you may be screwed. Definitely could be wrong though, thoughts?

Most Gen 4 nvme is compatible with PS5 since most are rated higher than 5500mb/s. Below is a link to your question and another link to what other people do with the Hynix P41.

https://www.techradar.com/news/ps...ng-console

https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews...index.html

The Hynix Platinum is top tier so it won't be a performance issue but rather a throttling issue once it heats up over 60c. The best nvme for PS5 all come with a heatsink.
