Great deal, had bought one of these a few weeks back at full price. Just bought two more. They work great, good range.

While there are cheaper WiFi alternatives (TP-Link's Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug), I'm thinking this device being able to pair with the Zigbee hub in certain Amazon Echo devices as well as their eero devices is this product's "killer feature" that will get a lot of people in to smart home technology.

Wifi devices aren't good for your home network as they eat up a lot of bandwidth, congest your network and count towards the number of maximum devices connected to your router.
Edit: Also, if you lose internet connection, then none of your wifi devices will work. Zigbee/zwave doesn't need a live internet connection to work as long as your hub is turned on

Just go with kasa and save a ton of money. If you are concerned about wifi bandwidth then get a new router with that savings

I have 23 devices on a dedicated 2.4 Ghz IoT VLAN on my dual band access point without any issue. All connect at 72 mbps or less. There's not a lot of bandwidth involved with switching lights on and off in my experience, and none of the consumer devices in my house share that 2.4 Ghz radio, as they all connect to the 5 Ghz radio using a separate isolated VLAN/SSID. Anyway, glad to see deals on Zigbee devices on sale as I recently added a Zigbee/Zwave dongle to my Home Assistant VM to open up the possibilities of adding other smart home tech to my place (I'd really love an outdoor motion sensor for my backyard to create an automation to control smart switched lighting out there for overnight security).

You can add an outdoor camera and create a rule that if the camera "sees" a motion, turn the lights on.

Yeah I have a couple of eufy doorbells that do that for me by switching on lights at my front and back doors when motion is detected - I'll probably end up with a eufy cam in the back yard to do what you're saying as well.

they don't, it's quite minimal in todays world of highspeed WiFi and everything can be isolated quite easily today as well.
my main problem with WiFi is the dependence on vendors apps/clouds/severs... yes once setup, you no longer need to use them directly, but they're still being used by whatever controller you have. company decides to shut em down, they're dead.
not the case with ZWave/ZigBee (aside from all the Chinese companies that halfass follow the standards and make an open protocol damn near proprietary), as long as it's defined, it'll work with any configurable server, provided there's a device interface written for it.
ZigBee has become more and more of a mess over the years, i've been moving away from it recently... everybody just seems to be doing whatever they want, "standards" are much looser and it causes issues with the mesh. it sucks because ZigBee is designed to handle far more hops than ZWave, albeit over shorter distances. i'm running into issues with 3 hops with some ZWave stuff and 4 hops, although in the spec, doesn't seem to work at all. so here i am slapping together a Pi/ZWave stick to have a remote Home Assistant setup out in our pig house (~200ft from the house.) Obviously a non-issue for 99.9% of people, just something i'm running into as i expand out.

Should we wait for matter compatible devices? Instead of keep buying zwave and zigbee devices ?

Most people should buy Wi-Fi versions, not zigbee, especially at this price. Wifi are far less expensive and will be better for most people, for several reasons. I have extensive and complex automation at my house including zwave, zigbee, and wifi technologies. Over 200 automated devices and I would buy a Tuya compatible wifi outlet over this, unless this was free.
I could see this Zigbee device being worthwhile for someone who already has an Echo 4 with a built in Zigbee hub, as long as it's fully compatible with the Echo 4 as they claim. Since this is an outdoor device, WiFi range may be a problem for some. An Echo 4 could essentially replace a WiFi repeater, negating the need to buy a WiFi repeater to solve a range issue. For that reason alone, this device may be worth the additional price over a similar WiFi device.

That's bad advice. If you already zigbee/zwave, it's better to use that. If not, then you need to know that if your wifi device doesn't have a local network API, you're at the whim of the company continuing to support that wifi device.

Matter 1.0 just released... it sounds like it has a fair amount of time to stabilize. i'm staying far away for quite some time to see what happens and where it lands.

I think they might but the price being the issue. While I don't disagree about it, I have zigbee, z-wave and wifi devices, I can't say i have an issue with any of them, but I have a dedicated mesh setup for my smart devices

Bought eero 6 pro and that is first item I have had that has zigbee, but like others have said, pricey. This is what has and will likely continue to keep me away from zigbee stuff. If you have good stuff setup properly, using wifi switches/plugs should be best way to go when it comes to value. Matter, if it turns out as designed, should clean up this mess that is the current state of home automation IMO.
