Just received an email letting me know their traditional Black Friday sale is live. 40% off ($19.99->11.99) for new subscribers. For existing ones, like previous years, just buy a $11.99 gift card for yourself and then apply it to your account to save. Only valid on the HD plans.

Terms and conditions: INSIDEACCESS is valid for 40% off and applies to any new subscribers' first year of Standard HD Annual or Premium 4K Annual subscriptions, and to the purchase of Curiosity Stream gift cards. All subscriptions and gift cards must be purchased directly through curiositystream.com. This offer expires on November 22, at 11:59 pm EST. Subsequent renewals will be charged the full price plus any applicable tax.

For those who aren't familiar with CS, it's an awesome (and super cheap) video service that specializes in documentaries, covering history, science, etc. I've been a member for like 6+ years now and watch it all the time. Not for everyone, but if you love documentaries, I'd highly suggest checking them out. For $12/year, it's a no brainer.

I actually had this as trial and love documentaries but could not get into the ones they were showing. I am sure there is great content there but the ones i tried did not resonate with me so i never watched it

If you have a library card that gets you free access to Hoopla, it includes access to CuriosityStream

Does anyone know if you sign up using this link if you get access to Nebula?

I believe they put Nebula under the "Premium" tier which is a lot more expensive and, IMHO, not worth it. They used to include Nebula for free with all accounts, but they might have changed that. I'm on the regular/HD tier and get Nebula for free though still. But since my CS account pre-dated the Nebula partnership, I had to reach out to their customer service team to activate that for me. I'd recommend trying that approach.

Glad they got it working. Some of the tech stuff is a bit shallow, but much of it is good. Anyone know if you can stack 2 gift cards on the same account to extend the subscription?

That used to work in the past, as I know I did a 2x redemption a couple years ago. Haven't tried this time, but I'll probably do that again this year.

Also, to save some additional money, it doesn't seem like they verify the CC billing zip code, which they use to determine taxes. For example, my actual zip code has a ~10% tax rate on streaming services, which they tack on to the $11.99 (making it almost $14). I tried using a different zip code (10019) which doesn't tax streaming services (NYC) and it processed the CC just fine and my price was just $11.99. Smilie

Wow, nice info! I never even heard of Hoopla, but just checked and my library includes it. However it looks like you have to 'check out' a 'binge pass' for CuriosityStream which is only valid for 7 days, though it appears you can continually renew it. Free is free, so that's nice, though personally I think CS is easily worth $1/month.

But Hoopla has passes to other things too, and The Great Courses one looks interesting and something I'll be checking out.
