Given the amount of Redditors RMAing these on r/ultrawidemasterrace, I'm gonna say proceed with caution. Hell of a deal if everything is working as intended
Some input from someone that bought it on release. Monitor is fantastic for gaming. There's two main problems with them though. Dead pixels, and damage to the anti-reflective coating due to the packaging they use.

My first monitor came with dead pixels. I didn't open it until after the 30 day return period so they sent out refurbs as replacements. The refurbished units all had problems (dead pixels and scratched to the anti-reflective coating). I assume they're from people returning for the same issues I was but Dell seems to just throw them back into circulation as long as they power on.

They finally sent out a brand new monitor after 3 refurbs but that also had slight scratches to the anti-reflective coating on the top corners. I ended up just dealing with it since it's hard to see them unless viewing dark imagines at certain angles.

For this price it might be worth taking the risk but I wouldn't expect a perfect monitor if they're coming from the same pile as the Dell refurbs they send out for replacements.

just received mine in the mail today and set it up (vesa mounted).

i can fortunately say that i am not suffering from any dead pixels or any other defects. i am a bit miffed that the factory calibration report was not in the box. i could calibrate the monitor myself further using calman and a i1pro spectro but the spectral range on that device is not sufficient for QD-OLED, which has a narrow spectral bandwidth. i would need a $10k spectro to calibrate it correctly and I'm not about to do that.

the text concern is way overblown. completely content with the way text is rendered. my displayport kvm switch cannot support 3440x1440p @ 175hz + HDR so I am in the process of ordering a new DP KVM switch that does.

overall i'm content with the product especially buying it at $756 + tax. there were some scratches on the back of the monitor where you plug in cables but I can't really complain about that. The display itself is clean which is all that matters.

oh and im on the latest firmware too

edit: nevermind, the display is not perfect. there are some permanent scratch marks from the styrofoam packaging. you can only see it when a light source reflects off the display aggressively and you'll see it an an extreme angle. still though, unfortunate there are scratches on the display. i don't think ill be going through the hassle of returning it and getting a new refurb, i think all refurbs will have some kind of scratch like this

edit2: nvm the defect was enough that i want a replacement. called dell and they will ship me a replacement aw3423dw first. once received and confirmed its in good condition, i will be shipping back the defective unit to dell via fedex pickup.

pretty impressed with dell's customer care ill admit

I don't have dead pixels but also had the smudge & minor scratches. Not bad but I decided to go with the AW3423DWF for a little more. I still think it's an acceptable price as an early adopter. (i saw your comment saying you probably should have gone that route). In the end I decided to get the 3 yr warranty & hopefully not get styrofoam scratches (but apparently dwf are also packed the same way Frown ). My only annoyance is the AW3423DWF HDR1000R etof is not tracking like the AW3423DW. But it does have updateable firmware so I am hoping for a firmware update (my AW3423DW had latest firmware but still ridiculous that it needs to be sent in for firmware update because of gsync ultimate). I will see for myself how the hdr1000 source tone map of the aw3423dwf compare to the AW3423DW.

Just received it. No dead pixels but there are a few scuff marks and a very questionable tiny dent right in the top border of the monitor. Close to cracking the glass but luckily no damage. I'll keep it, but beware of physical damage when ordering refurbs from them!

The fan noise, when working as expected, isn't that bad. It's quieter than my pc fans so I don't hear it until the pc is shut off and the monitor is cooling off. HOWEVER, my pc has been turned off for over 24 hours and the fan is still running and rattling LOUDLY. Super annoying. Can hear it from next room. I'm returning and waiting for 2nd or 3rd gen.

Good deal but turning into a real annoyance for me. Mine came with a stuck pixel so I put in for an exchange. They told me it had no warranty and that I had to contact sales to get the warranty associated with the monitor. As it turned out, they just needed to look up the warranty via the order number, not the service tag. That took several hours to figure out. After all that, they sent the wrong monitor for exchange. I sent it back and am now fighting to get them to send the correct one. What a mess. Most people are saying they have no dead pixels so it looks like I was just unlucky.

I compared dw & dwf (source control hdr1000) side by side. The dwf makes more scenes brighter. And the yellow is more vibrant. The con of it is some yellows seem overblown. It also looks less natural (kind of have a samsung look for yellow). DW handles red better. The red seem more saturated (it conveys deep reds well while dwf deep reds looks to be a lighter shade of red). The DW seems more realistic/pleasant to the eyes but I would say that it's very similar. Finally, each tightly packed light bulb on a flashing neon sign can be seen clearly on the DW. On the dwf, the light bulbs tend to blend into each other more. I would say this is actually the biggest difference between the two hdrs. It's a minor thing but it stood out the most when comparing the 2 monitors (at normal monitor viewing distance). This makes the DW's image appear sharper (since every detail can be seen clearly) and really sells the effect of being there. Personally, I have a limit on how much I am willing to spend on these new qd-oled monitors. I think I am unwilling to sacrifice some hdr for $200 less and 3 yr warranty is a big plus for these monitors.

Is it worth the risk with the 90 day warranty though? Would my freedom flex extended that another year for a refurb? t
I dont know if this has changed, but a few years back, if you purchased any computer system with it, and purchase the extended warranty on the computer system, that warranty also applied to the monitor.

It was easy for me because I work in IT. I just purchased a system with it, and eventually sold it to a client.
