the one walmart carried for the same price was the better Animal 2 right? and the costco animal 2 was a watered down inferior version?

also paying $80 more for an animal 3, is that better

The Animal 2 I ordered from WalMart comes in a black box, and has the model number UP20.

the one from costco is excellent...i have springer spaniels and picked up their dog hair all over the house on bare flood and carpet

Compared to the Animal 2, the one from Costco is inferior.

The Animal 2 that Walmart had was the better option. Sam's club has the Total Clean for $199. From the specs it seems to be the same as the Animal 2 with additional tools.

Garbage for carpets, great on hard floors. Way too strong for carpet you won't be able to use it unless modified and likely voids warranties
