The X570S is only one generation old, the first Gen was just x570. The X570S is the latest of the x570 chipsets. The main differences between this motherboard from its first generation is that the x570s has passive cooling for the chipset, 4 nvme slots vs 3, an upgraded dac chip, and wifi 6e. Basically it is the Aorus Extreme without the 10gig ethernet. It is a excellent motherboard and one of the best last Gen Ryzen motherboards. I built a 5950x system using this motherboard and didn't have a single problem. It is a feature rich and very stable motherboard.

Regardless of anything I've read enough Gigabyte horror stories to just steer clear.
I have the x570 Aorus Master for my 3900x and it's been great

Agreed, I've had the original X570 Aorus Master with no issues since launch. Had a 3900x and even went to a 5950x.

Funny, my 1st gen runs so cool the chipset fan never even kicks in regardless, even with the 5950x. Can only imagine the improvements made since then.

In any case, I'd say this is easily top 5 x570 board you can buy today. Get one of these, a 5800x3d, and 32GB RAM; you're getting a good bang for your buck for a gaming combo.

This is probably overkill for a 5600x rig, yes?

This is 50% nonsense

The X570 and X570S are the exact same chip, with the only difference being passive vs. active cooling

They are the same generation, and there is no difference between them but the cooling

So is the cooling worth it? What I'm saying is the x570s worth more to upgrade?

Bought this motherboard back when it was at MSRP of about $370-390. Got it for about $300 at the time and thought it was a steal!
That was over a year ago and Im still waiting for the right gpu at right price for me. To top it off, Ssd prices are so freakin low, makes me wish I had waited to buy all the parts.
Will try to buy an AMD 7900 xt !
