I mean the performance it's based on your usage. If it's profesional work then yeah it is worth the performance. Also, it doubles the amount of RAM to which it should naturally be supported for longer. .
Not sure what you keep on your iPad but for media (movies, tv shows, etc.) something like this Samsung USB-C drive [a.co] (256GB for as low as $25 and super fast read speeds) is perfect instead of paying Apple's ridiculous prices for storage.

Also, if you already have a large iCloud plan, there is that also.

(note: the 256GB version of this drive was just $25 and looks like it sold out from Amazon and only 128GB are available). But they work great with something like Infuse to manage and play your media.
Samsung.com [samsung.com] has the 256Gb version for $24 but delivery times are in Jan 2023.

Update: Amazon [a.co] is now available for $24 with delivery by DEC 21.
For those who caught the Walmart iPad Air 4th Gen for $350 is it worth the extra $150 for the M1 chip?

Ah, amazon is only matching the 64, not the 256
Might be only certain colors for 256 GB? Except for purple, I see some of them are $649.99 as well (same deal -- it says there's a discount at checkout on the item page, and then you have to add to cart and go to checkout to see the final price).

M1 is great but the 60hz screen really bogs it down

it won't FEEL fast if you've used any of the newer high end apple or samsung devices with 90hz+ screens

This is a good deal but do people really need a m1 in an iPad? People really use this as a content creation device? I had an original 1st gen iPad Pro. Never made anything. I am not the creator type but most of us just surf the web and watch tiktok

I opted for the iPad Pro over the M1 Air for the promotion display and the storage being 128gb.

If people can get passed the 60Hz display, the lack of a thunderbolt USB-C port, and the 64gb entry configuration, $500 is a solid deal for a M1 iPad. If Apple expands iPad OS 17 to do more PC like stuff or to run Mac OS in some capacity, people are going to get good value from the Air.

The one thing people don't think about on the 64gb iPad Air is that it can't do memory swaps, which means it's less versatile when taxing the device with productivity apps.

DaVinci Resolve is about to debut on the M series iPads. The support is slowly coming in, but iPad OS 17 is the make/break for the software for many people.

I compared ipad 10th with air 5th side by side. I would say one can't tell difference in 95% of everyday use. Yes M1 is an overkill for a tablet unless you play extensive games on it.

M2 Pro 11" 128gb model. I wanted to future proof myself more with the extra software support, Wi-Fi 6E, etc. I was thinking about the M1 Pro 11" and Air M1 too.

Can't go wrong with any of those devices though.

Hell no.. i'll pocket that $150 and use it towards the next upgrade.

if you're going to spend $500.. might as well just get the 11" pro.. last gens always go on deep discounts new and it always blows my mind why people buy the current ipad air line when they can get a brand new 11" pro (last gen) for a bit more but the QoL is A LOT more. $500 for 64GB is a joke.. basically apple slapping their consumers with their d*ck and consumers being like.. ty may i have another. if you opt for higher storage the only other option is 256GB @ $750 [wtf is this price].. or you could be smart and get a brand new last gen 11" ipad pro (when on sale). ipad pro 11" m1 for $599 vs a current gen ipad air for $499.. i dunno but that just seems like a stupid decision to get the air.

imo the air models are THE worst price/perf ipads.(not counting the $350 air4thegen) right now the 256GB air is $750 while the ipad pro 11" 128GB is $799 (both without being on sale).. the extra 128GB storage is not worth everything else the pro gives.

apple gimps their tablets so bad (the ipadOS) that the m1 chip isn't even taken advantage of lmao. people who say get the m1 chip probably have zero idea what they're talking about and prob just one of those people who go.. NEW THING.. MUST BE BETTER THING MUST GET NEW THING... and don't have any clue why the m1, while it's a very nice chip, offers little advantages in an ipad.
that said, if apple ever makes ipadOS an actual capable OS.. then I would say the $150 would be worth it 100%. but they won't it would make too much sense.

i have and love my m1 12.9" ipad, but i have 0 issues going between the two (the air 4th gen).. i've actually been using the air more lately, maybe because it's a new toy.. but not really a new toy because I already have an ipad? i dunno

no one with a brain should be buying the 256GB model of the airs (terribly priced) when you can get the pro 11", which shits on the air, for a little bit more.. some times it's actually CHEAPER.

imo, that 350 doll hair sale was probably the best apple tablet deal we'll see.. price/perf
256 air is 650, not 750. 128 pro is 800. You can decide if the pro is worth $150 more w half the storage.

$350 for iPad 4th gen is a better deal for most everyday use. I can probably use it for 2-3 years and will lose only $100 when I trade in.

I also agree with going with the M1 because it's more future proof. I can easily see Apple segregating features between the the newer and older ipads. A feature like Stage Manager is already a hint of that. The M1 ipad air has 8GB whereas the 4th gen only has 4GB which is a big deal in the apple realm. So I think that the 4th gen ipad air will become obsolete much faster than expected.

Yes M1 much better than A14, you will get more years for software support.
Agreed. M1 will be supported for much longer IMO. When Apple switched from 32 bit to 64 bit, the 32 bit stuff was dumped early on. I would expect the same with the M1+ processors vs the older processors.
