6650 XT is roughly 25% faster, so if the 6600 is 200$, a 6650 for around 250$ would be the same value for power. So spending a little more gets a faster card and you don't have to drive to MicroCenter(although we love to anyway, mines 40 minutes away).

If it means anything to you, I've decided to upgrade from my 970 to a 6600 (the Sapphire one at Amazon for $210). That's about a 2x increase in performance for a little less than I paid for the 970 back in 2015. I too was on the fence about getting the 6650xt but ultimately decided on the 6600 because I could get it delivered tomorrow (this was the last part of my build).

Edit: still keeping an eye on deals though cause return window from Amazon is Jan 31 2023.
Did the same thing and went from the 970 to the RX 6600. Have been testing it and have not found a better 1080p card for the money that can also eek out 1440p with some tweaks in multiple benchmark type of games.

Yes, you can keep waiting. But in stock, today, mature drivers, reasonable power demand and noise levels -- at $200 its superior to anything NEW you can get at that price from Intel or Nvidia.

Which is why I put that in parentheses. Hit or miss. I've always gotten mine hit you have to work way harder than you should.

But even at $222 it's a far faster card
Also ZIP11 is over

I currently have a 1070. Thoughts on this or a 6650xt to replace it?
If it was me, I'd get a 6700XT or above, or the NVIDIA equivalent, the 3070. I currently own a 6800XT which I upgraded from a 1080Ti even though Ti's no slouch.

At which display resolution do you want to play with?
2560x1080 at 120-144hz. It's the 34" alienware ultrawide. I only play fortnite, l4d2, some BF5, but I have to turn down graphics to hit higher fps and I'd like to have both up. Lol

I'm also playing on a 1080p ultrawide 34" lol. Catching up on years of backlog games with a slightly older GPU now that's doing fine. GPU benchmarks and upcoming game system reqs seem to point to the RX 6650 XT being solid for both of us. Some of the less optimized games of the ps5 generation would likely struggle just a bit with an RX 6600 on ultrawide especially for 2023-2024 releases.

I'm targeting 60-100 FPS on 1080p ultrawide, high, for the remainder of the ps5 gen.

Bought this today and had no idea there's no back plate. Kills my build. I'll have to return and spends a few more bucks.

Edit: I'm going to make my own back plate. Seems easy enough.

wow...this appears to be better than 1660 super which is way overpriced since 2020. Am I right about that? Killer price since 1660 super used to sell out at slightly inflated prices around $230-250?
It does scale well compared to 1660, but I would say to get a much more powerful card for an extra 80 something bucks.

I bought one yesterday, it needs 8pin power supply. My Dell XPS only has 6pin power output. I ordered a 6pin to 8pin adapter from amazon. Not sure it will work or not.

Someone said it is not safe to use the 6pin-8pin adapter?

A GPU backplate is a thin layer of heat absorbing metal on the back of the PCB side of the card (the side that faces up when slotted in). Supposedly to help with cooling but most manufacturers just include them for aesthetics... Depending on the card it may help somewhat with temps but for lower power draw cards they are mostly unnecessary
