I've worked professionally as a Chef for 18 years, and Thermoworks is the industry standard. I bought a couple of the Thermopros you linked for some new employees, and they're not as accurate or as fast as the cheap Thermopops. They both lasted less than three weeks in my restaurant before they failed. We have a couple Thermopops that have been going strong for 4 years. I, most professionals, and health inspectors use Thermapens by Thermoworks. The cheap Amazon pens are probably fine for home use, as long as you're easy on them. I'm not knocking the cheap Amazon thermometers for what they are. I'd take a Thermopop over them any day if the week, though.
Great product at great price.
This is a legit brand/company unlike a lot of the shilled junk on SD.
I am seeing $4.99 as cheapest shipping, ymmv by location

Wow these have gotten cheap! I think I paid like $40 for mine 5-6 years ago. Great value here

Is it worth going up to the ThemoPop 2 for IP67 waterproofing? The ThermoPop 1 is rated IP66 and is splash resistant.

What is annoying is that it charges tax on shipping too... it's minor but still should not be the case.

Ugh i couldnt resist with the extra 10% so ended up buying the thermapen one, signals and thermopop. My friend gave me his old smoke x4 and I recently got the billows and used it for the first time this past weekend to smoke a brisket and it was amazing and made the process much easier. I was missing the ability to manipulate the temp remotely though. I also have a Meater which was useful for monitoring the meat temp without extra wires

Keep in mind if you have an induction cooktop, the Thermopop might not work due to magnetic interference. Mine keeps resetting when it gets close to the cooktop so I have to lift the pan away to get a reading. Get the Thermapen instead if you have induction!

Oh wow I didn't correlate that! We got an induction range and my thermopop suddenly started jumping around for readings.

I replaced it with the thermopen one and all is well.

Sure enough, I just tested it and as soon as the pot got near the pop went from steady reading to jumping!

I was reading their website about something else, as I just got one of these the last time this deal was posted a few weeks ago. In troubleshooting they say to try turning off the burner for a moment when taking the temperature or remove the pot from the stovetop. Seems like both are easy to do. I don't have an induction cooktop and also would not have thought of that as the issue. Glad it's an easy workaround. Though upgrading to the Thermopen is probably more satisfying!

Came here to say this. Also, Thermopops used to cost $50, or $60 at a retail store. I loaded up and bought 4 of them a year ago for $23 each believing I was locking in on the lowest price was going to see in a long time (At least without spending an excessive amount of time Chasing a deal).

I find myself using the thermopop more than their flagship thermometer Because I don't enjoy folding and unfolding the needle. The thermopop takes a second or two longer, but that's shorter than unfolding and folding a needle.

This is a silly price. I got 4 more 1 as a gift. 1 blue one to use only with water so I am assured No food residue will my water (coffee, tea, ect) so my Controlled OCD Doesn't fret cleaning the h*** out of it before I put it in my water when I make coffee at home.

As an alternative for about the same price (clip the 10% coupon). Similar specs, but more accurate and waterproof. Mine is 3 years old and going strong.

ThermoPro TP15 Waterproof Instant Read Food Thermometer, Digital Meat Thermometer for Cooking and Grilling, Backlight Kitchen Thermometer, BBQ Smoker Cooking Thermometer with Probe Calibration https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GWGTJRQ/

Thanks! Now I can get a waterproof one and not have to pay for shipping 👍

Signals + Billows + code TWP2B-G97L35 is the lowest I've ever seen. Roughly $210 + tax + shipping.

Sometimes one or the other is a few bucks cheaper but you'll pay full price for the other.

So according to several threads i've seen on SD….these are the only thermometers that work. Apparently there is a big conspiracy by big thermometer always selling inaccurate thermometers.

Great for the regular cook.

+- 1 degree is just average, especially for these type of thermometers without calibration.

Ie. Pretty much every higher quality made in China type will do similar.
(Thermocouple tech isn't rocket science.)

And the like if you REALLY want accurate and proven calibration.

Other thermometers work. Or work well enough, at least.

Thermapen is basically the food service standard. Many Thermoworks products come with a calibration certificate, which is important in many use cases. Thermoworks products are very well made.

Plenty of "good enough" options exist out there. I personally have a Lavatools Javelin [amazon.com]. I paid ~$30 for it maybe 6 years ago. It's performance is similar to a Thermopop but the form factor is like a Thermapen. I did a couple big charity cooks a year and wanted something for the apron pocket. But if I were buying today, I'd pay $12 for the Thermopop at home and the ~$60 for a classic Thermapen for the public cooks. Both options offer better value for the money spent.
