Please excuse any errors as this is my first post of a deal. I've been looking for these for the last couple months and finally found them at a decent price.

Note: The price on amazon has been fluctuating by the day so hopefully it stays at this price for a bit. Also, these are the SmartTag (regular), NOT plus version.

Opposite experience for me with the Samsung Smart Tags. Packed them in luggage/backpack while traveling to SF and they pinged the entire trip, regardless of how near/far I was from them. Pinged all day long in my hotel room from various Galaxy users passing by. Also tracked them on all flights, which let me know my checked bags boarded with me. Highly recommend them.

The only issue I've had with these is when they are close to dying, I've never seen it go into the low battery phase. It just stops tracking no notification or anything. Instead, it shows the last location of when it was on as if that's its current location.

I had the 'Tile' things and the technology is identical. They were entirely worthless, as these will be, because they only find your thing if your thing is in line of sight so the bt signal is found, and if the devices are in line of sight, you'd just see the thing anyway. Battery goes dead, you won't know, then the tracker device is absolutely useless. Don't bother, these don't work, the tech is not a sound means of finding lost things.
The tile helped me to find my cat's collar with the tag multiple times, so it paid for itself. But I had to walk around the neighborhood trying to get signal and then trying to hear the chirring sound (difficult with cicadas around). Once I found it quite a long distance from my home - somebody walked nearby with the tile app, the week after the loss. I'd prefer to have a GPS tag with a cellular connection, but at the time there were only dog versions.

Can you recharge these or replace batteries? If not, how long do they usually last? I had tile before, how do they compare?

It seems nobody has asked the most obvious question: how are these Samsung smarttags compared to Apple airtags? Do they work better? Worse? Worth the lower price?

Plenty of people have. They used Google instead of waiting for someone to spoon-feed then the info they desire.

It is indisputably the exact same tech as tile. Tile ceased operations and no longer even offer the app to be downloaded because it was an absolute failure of a product. So is this. I already explained how they are the same, you have not offered anything beyond snarky off the cuff contrariness. Are you still irrationally angry about Michigan ending your season?

I just uninstalled and reinstalled tile. You're full of it.

The only thing indisputable is your inability to listen to anyone besides yourself.

Others in this very thread have discussed numerous times how it differs from Tile (integrated into the core of Android OS and SmartThings, can use every other compatible Samsung Galaxy device to geolocate, doesn't require any 3rd part apps running in the background, only needs Bluetooth to be enabled, full integration into SmartThings for home automation routines based on Smart Tag button presses or geolocation. Major differences in both the tech and function.

But keep misdirecting, repeating your misinformation, and making personal attacks instead of learning about what this thread is actually discussing.

The wife and I both have Samsung S10 phones. Is this the best product to get currently or is there a better option, if the main use would be to put in our checked luggage when flying? And also maybe the kid's school backpack. Thanks.

Everybody's copying everybody, the tech industry is basically the music industry except they don't sue each other constantly for it

I've used them with my S22 Ultra for those exact uses and they worked flawlessly.

According to this [samsung.com], these are the requirements. Just make sure your S10s meet these:

⁴ Galaxy SmartTag is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy phones. Use with a Galaxy smartphone running Android 8.0 or higher with 2.0GB RAM and above. SmartThings app required

Great post. Saved me a headache. Thanks.[/QUOTE]

Just a little more information. But this is how Airtags and Tiles work as well. Neither of these have GPS either. Airtags rely on a nearby iPhones to track it's location. And Tile relies on a nearby device that has the Tile app installed to be able to track location.

I've seen a couple of YouTube videos and found that many were surprised that the Galaxy SmartTags slightly outperformed Airtags when it came to real time tracking. One would think that there are more iPhones in the public. However, at the same time, there are so many different Samsungs (Galaxy Z, A, S, FE), that there is a pretty extensive network for Samsung as well. And SmartTags works with any Samsung phone that has Android 8 and above. So there are tons of devices out there that can track these SmartTags.

Most people seem to say that both Airtags and SmartTags perform pretty similarly. With, really, only two main differences.

1) Airtags are more secure in that you can find out if someone placed an airtag on you. Your iPhone will alert you if an unexpected airtag is following you. From what I understand, SmartTags do not have this yet.

2) SmartTags have an extra feature with the buttons. You can set single clicks, double clicks, and long presses to do different things. Especially if you have other smart home devices, this can be useful. Airtags do not have this feature.

No disagreements on the roundabout "innovation" that seems to lead to every consumer tech company eventually having the exact same product lineups. I was just noting that between Apple and Samsung, Samsung was first to market here (to say nothing of others that came before, like tile).

Also, they do sue each other all the time. Though a few years ago, a couple of big tech companies agreed to reciprocally drop a number of big lawsuits against each other just to avoid bleeding out to lawyers and ending up worse off than they started.

Some SDer's are just dead set on being wrong, while thinking they are right. Not sure why that poster thinks Tile is out of business, Just bought some Tiles and their service is working fine.

For the price, I may just swap out some of my Tiles for the Samsungs since the coverage from Samsung will theoretically be better for me.
