One of the very few retail NVME 2230 drives available, Microcenter's Inland brand version is not compatible. I learned this the hard way after trying two different drives for my SP8. The reason for it seems to be that it is a 4x4 NVME drive which apparently pull slightly more power than a 3x4.0, leading to random crashes. 3x4 drives are available on ebay, but buyer beware. I feel lucky that the Samsung drive (PM991a) I purchased was as advertised, and nearly brand new. It works flawlessly.
I think, but I am not sure that the SP9 should be able to handle 4x4 drives, opening up possibilities for other replacements.
As for what is the better deal right now, this SP8 bundle vs. SP9 i5 bundle (with type cover) - it depends. This comes with the signature cover and slim pen 2, which many but not all will want. The CPU and battery life are going to be similar for most tasks. The integrated GPU will be better on the SP8 despite having the same GPU because some of the channels disabled on the i5. In fact, the GPU is probably better on the SP8 i7 than the SP9 i7 (look it up). That being said, this is not a machine designed for heavy gaming or demanding graphical processing.
Overall, this is a great deal and likely the best you will see this holiday season.

I mean, my 5980hx with 6800m laptop gets up to 10 hours.
Don't get me wrong, there is a lot that is appealing about the sp8/sp9.
