Sp8 and 9 has user replaceable nvme drive. Grab a 2230 sized 1tb or 500gb nvme drive and swap it out.

This is true, however, you will likely have to purchase a 2230 drive on the gray market (mostly ebay sellers ripping drives out of other devices) and for the SP8, you must be very careful that the drive you buy is compatible.

One of the very few retail NVME 2230 drives available, Microcenter's Inland brand version is not compatible. I learned this the hard way after trying two different drives for my SP8. The reason for it seems to be that it is a 4x4 NVME drive which apparently pull slightly more power than a 3x4.0, leading to random crashes. 3x4 drives are available on ebay, but buyer beware. I feel lucky that the Samsung drive (PM991a) I purchased was as advertised, and nearly brand new. It works flawlessly.

I think, but I am not sure that the SP9 should be able to handle 4x4 drives, opening up possibilities for other replacements.

As for what is the better deal right now, this SP8 bundle vs. SP9 i5 bundle (with type cover) - it depends. This comes with the signature cover and slim pen 2, which many but not all will want. The CPU and battery life are going to be similar for most tasks. The integrated GPU will be better on the SP8 despite having the same GPU because some of the channels disabled on the i5. In fact, the GPU is probably better on the SP8 i7 than the SP9 i7 (look it up). That being said, this is not a machine designed for heavy gaming or demanding graphical processing.

Overall, this is a great deal and likely the best you will see this holiday season.

4-5 hours of battery and 2 on one note kinda sucks tho tbh.
I mean, my 5980hx with 6800m laptop gets up to 10 hours.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot that is appealing about the sp8/sp9.

The 11th and 12th Gen i7 run too hot for potables this slim and a lot of reviews say the i5 is actually faster due to thermal constraints. So the $1100 deal may have been better.
Disable turbo 😂

How can they call it a Surface "Pro" and install Windows Home? 🙄
Microsoft started shipping Windows Home edition with Surface Pro products since the Pro 6.

Nice deal if you think a Surface Pro is what you need. The weight is nice. But Surface Pro isn't for everyone. The tablet form factor may look nice, but the soft keyboard and the tablet supported by a backstand are limiting factors compared to traditional laptops.

I've been wanting a surface pro for a while, but never really had the need until now. Would've pulled the trigger on this SP8, but saw the LG gram 14" for $800, also at Costco. Any recommendations on which to go with? Will be used mostly as a travel device in case I need to do some office work, so no real heavy lifting needed (no pun intended).

For a travel device, I would recommend Surface Pro. It is a 13" which is sufficient to do work and good to use as tablet on the go.

Just a heads up that Intel 11th and 12th gen are pretty garbage when compared to AMD. I was looking at the X1 Carbon but returned it due to how hot these CPUs run and the battery life was horrific. I was really excited about a surface but read a lot of horror stories, performance issues, battery life, ect. I ended up getting the Z13 for anyone wondering.

Is that a two-car garage?

Whoever decided to put 256GB hard drive in it should be fired.
