That's not something to be proud of 😬😬
You can do more than just repair clothes, you can also modify them. That and gear. I replaced elastic webbing on old pads that have lost their elasticity. I think I spent about $100 on my sewing machine and I recouped the cost within the first month of using it.

I don't use it all that often though, I save up projects until I have a pile of them and then I get them all done at once. I I have to rewatch the video on how to thread the machine, but the rest comes back pretty easily

I patch up my $10-20 jeans (on sale) and have worn them for many many years.... like 5-10 years. Some shirts and pajamas have been repaired several times even though I got them on sale at $5-10. Doesn't take that long.

I just got a huge tear in my cheap amazon basics PJs as they got snagged on something...don't want to throw them out out of principle, how do you patch, take a piece of cloth from an old shirt and lay out the torn section on that and just run stitches around the border of patch and torn parts? Thanks!

I ordered one for pickup and got a substitution notice. I was going to cancel, but then looked at the specs and it looks like the substitution is an upgrade. I haven't sewn anything since home ec in middle school, so either machine probably has more functions than I need, but looking forward to playing with this when I get it.

If you put the patch on the inside its a bit easier. Do the perimeter then some inside lines, and some lines close to the rip to hold it down. To make it look better, you'll have to path on top to cover the rip. Fold and sew the edges, then sew it on the rip. If you get better you can fold the edge and sew the edge at the same time as overlaying on the rip to reduce how many lines show. For clean small rips (more like cuts) sometimes I Just fold along the cut on the inside and do a straight line. It might scrunch up a bit at the ends but generally it looks fine on the outside. Just have a go at it and you'll just start getting a feel for what looks better.

Havent seen anyone repair their clothes in ages. Most of my clothes are replaced yearly.
Dang, how do you replace most of your clothes yearly? Do they wear out or do you just replace them because you just want new clothes? I wear most of my clothes for years and that's without doing any sewing. You might want to consider air drying your clothes if they are wearing out quickly or shrinking too much...

Bought this but had to return it.
For context, I am a beginner and it probably is the reason why I found the speed a bit too fast.
The other brother machines at around 250$ has speed control which is what I think beginners should buy. It has some other computerized features that should also help.

Really, if I have a tear in something I'd fix it before I'd throw it and get something new. I'm not made of money though, so maybe you are.
