I do not think you would be surprised to learn that this is exactly how I operate Edge on my Samsung Galaxy chromebook (using the Linux client within the ChromeOS Linux sandbox). Fortunately, activating the Linux sandbox within ChromeOS is trivially easy [google.com] and installing Edge in x86 Linux isn't controlled by Microsoft in the way they're able to restrict Play ... [microsoftedgeinsider.com].

Partdon the pun if I cite Microsoft Edge as an edge case; another example that few might attempt would be Samsung's mobile browser. In both cases, I expect the developer is intentionally avoiding x86 devices (though Microsoft appears to have gone even further, limiting most everything that isn't clearly a phone).

Otherwise, I love to advocate for alternative browsers on ChromeOS as it is a long-term option for chromebooks past their support date but which won't be granted this feature through the current development path for ChromeOS which will eventually decouple the Chrome browser from the... [aboutchromebooks.com]. At the same time, I would recognize that the vast majority of chromebook users will stick to the Chrome browser or may consider a fully supported Android browser like Opera (which widely advertises support for chromebooks via the Android Play store [opera.com]). In the same way, very few developers seem to bother with restricting chromebooks as an option for their app in the Play store even though that is a lever they can indeed enable (as the Microsoft Edge example illustrates).

Thanks for creating an opportunity to discuss alternate browsers on ChromeOS and also note the less-than completely universal nature of Play store support. As tablets and even some phones have often experienced the latter, it doesn't always get a mention even though it is still part of Google's Play store experience (either blame Google for allowing the broken experience and not enforcing universal support, or blame a given developer for avoiding platforms as part of their strategy).

Good luck!

Picked up a couple black/White letter keyboard skins for $8.00 from Amazon for my C425's and am amazed how well they fit. Ya can't even tell it's a skin and it adds a nice rubberized feel to the keys. Completely solved the visibility issue.
Been waiting for this to drop in price again. Think I'll return the non-touchscreen I bought for $119 and get this instead.

Can chromebooks do a kid's mode, where I can lock out functions and keep them from messing up the software? I just want them to be able to play games...
I've never used it but, yes, there is a Parental Controls feature.

Thank you for including the Model Number in the title! It's easier to differentiate the recent C433 and C425 deals these past two months.

My Toshiba Chromebook 2015 Edition is no longer supported by Chrome, and it certainly didn't offer a touchscreen. I have been using it as a media device for my 2 year old and he incessantly touches the screen to try and select his next video thumbnail. He hasn't quite grasped the mousepad, so this should make our lives much easier, for a great price, too! Thanks for posting!

Another Toshiba owner here. Bought a 433 for my dad for Xmas though he'll probably prefer to keep the Toshiba. I love my own Toshiba but I replaced it with an HP model just before the pandemic, now I got a 2nd 433 for myself. Just too good of a deal to pass. I still remember when trash Chromebooks were going for obscene prices, if you could find one, at the height of it. Can't believe people think $179 isn't a deal for this model. Short memories.

Did you exchange it? If so besides the touch screen any major difference or improvements? I bought the 129 one as a gift did not gift it yet (Saturday Christmas Eve) and considering the same exchange.

I bought this the last time it was on sale for this price, and although I don't regret the purchase considering the price, the 64 GB storage is very limiting in regards to installing the android apps. Although you can extend it with SD cards, the android apps cannot be stored there and there is no option to format the SD card as internal storage. Besides that, I highly recommend it for this price, but be aware of the limitations.
Although the OS won't do it an app like AppMgr will move apps to SD cards.

I literally just bought the Lenovo Duet 5 for $280. It's way too big (13.3 inch) and top heavy due to the flimsy keyboard. Most likely gonna return and probably buy this one instead for $100 less. Sure it's bigger and heavier, but the sturdiness of having an attached keyboard makes all the difference. I can't find a way to rest the Duet 5 without it being awkwardly placed, and the magnetic keyboard detaching with every movement. Not fun

Care to link it? I was inside a room with weird lighting and I couldn't see the backlight (at brightest) or the keys. I'm happy with it as is at home, but it's good to have a skin in certain occasions.

If you've ever purchased a CB with touch, it is likely you'll never go back to a non-touch model. My workhorse Acer R11 touchscreen needs replacing as updating ended a few months ago. Is the flex on this model evident every time one picks it up by the keyboard whether the CB is open or not? PLMK, thank you and Happy Holidays!
I am not bothered by the deck flex. I notice it if I grab it with 2 hands and twist - so I don't. Typing has been fine. The Screen side is solid and weighs as much as the base. I got an OB-excellent for $155 when it first hit $179 and I'm completely satisfied, given the sub-$200 price. The only build issue my hands seem to regularly seek out is the odd, poorly fit seem between the bottom plate and the deck mold. I believe the base is a flat metal plate and the keyboard deck is molded plastic that wraps around the sides where the I/O is located. The bottom plate kind of fits into the "box" created by the plastic deck mold and with the flex, it has an odd fit. It's not a big deal and I could just not run my fingers over that seem and never think about it. But I do. If I had paid >$500 for it, it would gnaw at my soul, but for this price, no F's given.

Good deal! BUT - was out of stock (not available for pickup or online ordering / shipping / delivery as new).

But they had an open box "Certified" deal for similar price ($173). Ended up being a good deal - thanks for sharing that it was on sale!
