Just a caution for those who might care. The BOGO last month (with the $30 gift card) could *not* be used in store, only on-line or via the app. This despite the fact that there was no obvious limitation, and the language on the certificate gave specific instructions about how to redeem in store. When you went to scan at the register, it said "on-line only" and while some managers made exceptions, the ones in my store typically did not. So if you are fine using it on-line that's no issue, but if you prefer in store so you can supervise construction of the food, then it's a royal PIA.

With the same situation, I felt embarrassed. Now I'm going to Kava, which is right next door.

Same deal as 3 weeks back, when it was BOGO coupon with $30+ gift card.
I think Chipotle is running this to increase their bottom line revenue for 2023, where they may claim full gift card value in revenue.

I just used my BOGO coupon yesterday in store without a problem at all. I simply clicked on it in the app, it brought up the scan code, and the system automatically took it off with no intervention by anyone. Worked like any other award or bonus I've gotten from them.

Last time deal BOGO with $30 gift card, the BOGO coupon didn't work for me either in-store or online. Not a good experience.

No, they cannot recognize the revenue for this until a customer actually buys the product and redeems the gift card. There is no impact to the profit and loss statement on purchase of a gift card. Cash goes up (since they get the cash in the door) and they recognize a liability for the same amount. The only potential time to recognize revenue is if the gifts cards are not redeemed. Since they don't expire, no income to recognize currently. There are some computations as to an expected amount not to be redeemed - but that does not get recognized for a few years.
