I have a pan by Cuisinart like this one but with a lid. It is well made and versatile, and heavy. There is a reason for the second handle. I would not hesitate at this price.

most cast stuff is made in China. cuisine art loves China. I question their metal products especially when it comes to mass production and food quality. with that said I like some of my cuinsinart stuff, I have no problem buying parts from China as that's where majority of factories are and their items are bought in bulk and shipped over for 10,000% mark up. I do have a problem with poor metallurgy.

I'd keep an eye out for lodge. it's cheap as it is, but if you're waiting for a sale, might take a while. most people are ignorant of basics and don't care because they don't like to complicate "simple" things, like eating. ie how everything that touches food leeches material onto the food, its just a matter of how much and in what conditions. cast iron is a great cooking surface, it does leech parent material/ oxide, especially with scraping and oil residues. this also means anything within the pan will get into food, whether this is lead or any other less desirable impurity, depends on manufacturer/ factory/ product and quality control/base material source.

Please please try to buy American cast iron. Don't trust Chinese cast iron or canning jars.
