Just a reminder for those that are not aware:
KF = unlocked, no integrated graphics
F = Not unlocked, no integrated graphics
K = Unlocked, integrated graphics

With KF and F, one will also need a graphics card.
Well I wouldn't pay an AMD "Speculation" tax.
Look, I'm rooting for AMD, the better they perform, the better Intel will perform, and the industry moves forward faster, and we get new tech faster, so GO AMD.

In 2017 I bought an I-5 8400/H370 combo which was beating the 1600 in games.
This holiday season, I decided to rebuild, looking forward to upcoming Pcie 5.0+ x8 graphics cards that seem to becoming a fad, for example, upcoming Navi 33, which is rumored to pack more power than a 6800xt, maybe close to the 6900xt (sounds like BS but lets hope).
All I had to buy was a 115$ mobo and a $170 cpu and now I have 60% more single core performance, and pcie 5.0.
If I was a 1600 owner, I could upgrade to the 5600, which I've seen for like, $130 and is an excellent chip, but would leave me stuck on pcie 3.0 on what would be a B350 board.
To go AMD to get pcie 5.0, I'd have to have bought the 7600x, which was as low as $240, or the upcoming 7600 which is expected to msrp at $230, plus a $200-300 mobo and another $150+ for new ram.

I understand AMD if you want to spend often and upgrade a lot, but it's not price/performance for someone like me, at least not during the times I go to upgrade.
13400 releases early next month and is only 65w

Good deal.
Cheapest I've seen the 12600k is 239.99, so this saves you $40 if you don't want the igpu and quick sync.
Easily on par with 7600x in single core and defeating it in multi core.
Cheaper boards than AMD too.
Anybody know why this gens AMD boards are so much more expensive than Intel boards?

It is likely because longevity of AMD is greater, and speculation says AM5 will last until DDR6, so 4-5 years. Meanwhile Intel will migrate again sooner to a new socket prior to. One would think less changes would drive price down due to mfg stabillity but in this case it's value pricing since consumers won't be required to upgrade in the near term

Running this with a MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk MB, 32GM RAM DDR4 3600, and a 3070TI. Very capable CPU, and running 12th gen now is not a bad choice at all, especially given this price, and you can support DDR5 if you want to also, but wasn't worth to me last year at least given the price. Not sure where that sits now. Good deal.

Great deal on a great CPU. I actually have two, one in my office and one in a home theater PC.

Up until 6 months ago, this was labeled the best bang for the buck in CPU terms. Now with 13600k, that isnt the case, but picking up one of these for $199 certainly puts it back in the running imo.

If I were starting over, I'd probably still spring for this and use the $100 savings to pickup that ASUS 32GB DDR5 ram that was advertised on buildapcsales yesterday.

Too bad we never see prices like this on the non F CPU's. Building an UNRAID/Plex server and need the best quicksync available for transcoding.

Not a reason, the chips don't cost more, intels limitations are artificial.

Good point! A lot of ppl don't realize this. MB specs improve over time. (For example x370/x470 are PCIe 3.0 and do not support 10gb usb). I'd not simply just upgrade the cpu or gpu on the old spec MB. So, I usually suggest buying the fastest you can afford now. When it comes to time to upgrade (3-4 yrs?), just sell the old MB cpu combo and buy the fastest again.

Maybe 12700k for this price. Old tech.
meanwhile I am 60fps'ing game on 1440p on an i5-9600k/rtx 2060 super combo. why spend premium prices on "new" tech if it doesnt do anything new? Makes no sense to me.
Especially for gamers; all they need is good single core speed and a gpu.

From what I've read, 13400 is basically a 12600K without an unlocked multiplier and slightly slower clocks. It's still Alder Lake, so not that exciting. It uses up to 140W without power limits.

You could power limit a 12600K to 65W too, if BIOS allows.

Based on MSRP, the 13400s will be in the $200 range, so I'm not really sure it's worth waiting for over this.

I thought it was Raptor Lake?
