1) Make sure there is no active subscription.
3) Buy enough to cover 3 years ( 3 years is maximum gold one can have on an account) .
4) Redeem those Gold keys so your account has 3 years of active gold subscription
5) buy the cheapest available game pass ultimate . Search gamepass ultimate on xbox.com, you could get the $1 offer
6) Redeem game pass ultimate on the account
7) it will popup a message stating all your gold will be converted to game pass ultimate
8) click yes
9) enjoy game pass ultimate for those 3 years

It's good for a no hassle approach. You can save a lot more if do the VPN trick (buy cheap Brazil or Turkey codes when they're available, use a VPN) or wait for the next time the "use smaller time period codes that are cheap right now and hope you get offered a free month every time you turn on and then off auto renewal" trick comes back around. Both of those methods run some risk to varying degrees.

Unfortunately the days of $30 1-yr XBL gold died when GPU launched.

It's actually cheaper just to buy one months from eBay and add them when your subscription ends. I'm paying $24 a year .

From another Xbox newb, my granddaughter received a new Xbox from her mother for Christmas and my son bought an Xbox Live 12-Month Gold Membership from Costco to give to her. I asked her mother to stop my granddaughter from activating the 3-Month subscription that comes with the device until she saw her dad Christmas Day so that we could activate both and use your hack to convert them to 15 months of Game Pass Ultimate for $1. She didn't. She may have let her activate the 12-Month membership by now, too. Can we still implement the upgrade to Ultimate?

If we can, her mom wants to do it. How soon could she cancel the $14.99/month Game Pass Ultimate subscription on xbox.com?

Thanks so much for the info! My granddaughter would really love this if we can make it work. 😁

I did this in 2019 when I had like 26 months of Gold, so my Gamepass $1 deal ended over a year ago (Dec 2021) and I've just had regular old Xbox Gold Live since then, but that's about to expire next week for me.

So my question, can I buy 3 years of gold now, then do this deal again? If so, do I need to let my xbox gold expire first and wait 24 hours or something? I don't want to screw this up. Thanks!

Yes you can. I just did it yesterday. Depending on how long your subscription to ultimate has expired, you may or may not see the $1 deal but you should surely see the $14 / month

If your granddaughter has activated game pass, adding any Gold will add a few months to game pass but not 1:1 ratio so in your case, she might get 4-5 months added to game pass if she redeems the 12 months Gold after activating game pass.

If she has not redeemed the 12 month Gold, they can either

1) wait till those 3 months are up and game pass expires before they do the buy Gold and then apply gamepass trick I detailed earlier

2) Contact Xbox support explain to them , you all planned to do the 1:1 conversion but granddaughter "accidentally" redeemed game pass before you all could add Gold.

Support should hopefully be able to fix it or maybe cancel and refund so you can do this.

I did the ultimate game pass trial beginning of December, it's about to expire in few days. I'm assuming I ruined the opportunity to convert the golds? Ty!!

Costco limits this to 2 per member. My question, can I buy 2 one day and one the next? Or can I just get to 33 months with the free month for auto renewal and buy 2, 12 month cards, and one six month? Thanks!

It was not. It was supposed to convert the USD equivalent to game pass, so if you converted the XBL 1 year, you would get about 3 months of gamepass. That's why you have to let it expire in order to do this "exploit"

It only converts to the price ratio if you already have GPU (aka if you have a 1 year live code that retails for $60, it will give you $60 worth of GPU at retail, which is 4 months). If you do not have GPU, it converts a time ratio equivalent to the full amount (aka if you have 1 year of gold and are not a GPU member, you will get a full year of GPU). This is how it has always worked since day one and is exactly what they intended. They could end it anytime they want to, it is not a mistake or accident. It is intentional, aka intended. Not an exploit at all.
