The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that it produces no harmful effects.
The phone manufacturers may be lying about the IP rating, but I assure you that IPx8 IP68 etc are water proof for "Immersion, 1 meter (3 ft 3 in) or more depth".
How would you define the difference between water proof and water resistant?
I could order 256 GB white at $349.
It seems that prices have gone up a little due to increased demand.

If you are really concerned, use one of those cheap universal phone sleeves when it starts to rain. If you are truly dependent on your phone, I wouldn't want to rely on the seal even if the phone was new, as you can't see whether water is entering.
There has been plenty of software updates that fixed the issues people were having. Im sure there will be lots of deals on these refurb phone since it had a rocky launch.
No issues here and its an overall smooth experience. Battery life could be a tad better, you can always nitpick.
Main problem is drops, followed by losing the phone. I've never broken a phone before (except temporarily by falling into a river), but that's what caused problems when I supported 400+ phone users. That said, there was a surprising amount of people that dropped them into the toilet. Not sure how one manages to accomplish that, but it's fairly common.
